Does baby sleep improve when in own room?

Do babies sleep better in their own room? My little one is 6 months old. Never really slept for long stints ever and is breastfed.
He wakes every 90 mins to 2 hours throughout the night and currently his cot is beside my bed.

Am I right in thinking babies tend to sleep better in their own room because he won’t be able to smell me/my milk??

Some babies sleep better in their own rooms.

The best thing to stop the night waking is cut the nighttime feeds though. That's what will make the real difference.

Depends on the baby.

As soon as I put my daughter in her own room at 5 and a half months she slept soooo much better

Mine slept infinitely better once in her own room, but she’s always been one who likes to be left to sleep rather than sleeping in us since she was tiny

Oh that’s good to know, @N12345625
Did she wake a lot before then? Breastfed or formula?x

Yes for both mine. Nice cosy cot with black out blinds. Quiet with nobody moving round.

Mine got worse sorry.

Skeeter2020 · 29/03/2020 22:00

It totally depends on the baby.

Weaning off night feeds might help

MindyStClaire · 29/03/2020 22:13

Mine was ebf, moved her at seven months. Thursday night in the next to me she was up and feeding every two hours. Friday night in her own room she slept eleven hours straight. From then she slept through maybe four or five nights a week.

Obviously we got ridiculously lucky, but just letting you know in case you do too.

@mindystclaire how wonderful! I hope we strike lucky like this too!!!! X

Breastfed and she woke up anywhere from 5 times to 10 times when in my room. When in her own is suddenly changed to 0-2 times :)

I’m watching with interest as in exactly the same situation with my EBF 6 month old!

@NuffSaidSam and @Skeeter2020 how do you wean off night feeds? I try and rock my DS back to sleep and if it’s only an hour since he fed he’ll sometimes let me but often not, and if it’s 2 hours or more no way, he’ll scream if I try to rock him so I feed him and he takes a lot of milk (boob) so seems hungry. He won’t let DH settle him either so that’s not working. How can we reduce/cut the night feeds??
