Moving baby to own room and having problems

Hi! My baby is 6 months old. (Was a month prem.) up until the last month , hes been very unsettled before naps and bedtime and would cry a lot and had to be rocked to sleep. He would however , sleep until around 7.30-8am with no wakings. He’s been sleeping in a crib in our bedroom but recently i have been putting him down for naps in his own room in his cot and he seemed to settle really easily with some white noise . Within a few minutes , he would be asleep without fail. It got me thinking that he might be better off in his own room now. First night was brilliant but then the last few nights he just chews on his Muslin cloth and won’t fall to sleep and he wakes in the night once or twice and screams uncontrollably. Because he’s been falling asleep on his own, I can’t even rock him back to sleep anymore because he just won’t go. Is this a normal thing to happen when moving them to their own room or is it something I’m doing wrong ? It’s really taking its toll on me and also on my marriage and I’m finding myself getting very annoyed and impatient with my baby. I love him dearly and would never hurt him but I’m actually at the end of my tether. Please help! Thanks
