Toddler only wants me at bedtimes

My nearly 3yr old (will be 3 end of May) is a great sleeper but only wants me to do bedtime.

My husband puts him to bed Tuesday and Fridays and does the same routine as I do. But it becomes a real struggle. My son gets so upset and says ‘I want mummy to do bedtime’ it’s heartbreaking to hear.

We still stick with it as I need to work some evenings and we feel it’s good for my husband to do it. My son adores my husband and when they are together he’s always laughing and having so much fun - just not at bedtime!

We prepare him for it by explaining in the day who is going to do bedtime and he seems to accept it but as soon as he gets to bedtime all he wants is me!

My parents also tried a few months ago to babysit and my son got hysterical then, they had to call us home from our night out!

Has anyone else experienced this with a toddler preferring only one person to do bedtime? Did you overcome it? And if so, how?!

Thanks!

It might be that the swapping around is confusing him - try being consistent, have your husband do every night.

Hi OP, I have one DD who sounds very similar. She's 5.5 now, and we have been doing turn about bedtimes (with the exception of when DH works away) since she was one and she STILL into really wants me for bedtime. She always puts up a bit of a fight (admittedly less so.m now she's older, but always a little falter)

I can't offer any advise, we just stuck with it and she is definitely much better than she was but she's just a mummy's girls. I fed her till she was 2 which maybe has a part to play in it, plus she used my hair as a comforter! She will allow her DGM to put her to bed but only when strictly necessary 🤣.

DD2 is totally different, couldn't care less who does her bed!

I do feel bad for DH sometimes but I think it's just how DD1 is.

I have to be out of the house if DH is going to do bedtime for DS (3 in June). UNfortunately, my sports training has fallen victim to coronavirus precautions so it's not an option. I may yet go out in the car for half an hour just to be able to be out
