12 week old waking all through night

I was hoping someone could help. Sorry it's long. DS is 12 weeks old and until the last 5-10 days was usually waking once per night for a bottle but would go down easily. For the past few nights he's been waking up up 4-8 times per night. He was mixed fed but as of this week is bottle-fed. Not too sure where I'm going wrong. He sleeps between 3 - 3 1/2 hours per day before 8pm, has between 6/7 oz at 11pm and will drain his bottle at 7am. He normally would wake at about 4am and take 2oz and go straight back to sleep. He was asking for his dummy at about 6am.

Other than him now being on bottles not much has changed other than since Sunday night I've taken him out of his swaddle and into a sleeping bag as I thought part of the problem might have been his Houdini act in managing to get unswaddled. I think their might be teeth looming - constant drooling, and hand in mouth, but he doesn't seem to be in pain at night......any thoughts?

hi, i'm increasingly thinking its a 12 week phase. sent to try us just as we relax thinking ooh 12 weeks is meant to be the magic age when things get easier... and they all start waking like monsters in the night.

i think its teeth yes as mine (now 14 weeks) is the same. she's always naturally woken herself to feed 11pm, 3am ish then 6.30am ish since she was born, but just as she hit 11 1/2 weeks she turned into a nightmare waking 4-5 times a night and really really hard to get her to resettle... the last 2 nights have been a bit better though so i'm hoping it was just a fortnight's hellish phase and hopefully yours will be too.

teeth are a bugger.

good luck x

i remember its the growing spurt at that age. I would try and top up the milks (1 oz per bottle) more during the day before he goes to sleep as it works for me.

Sounds like a growth phase, ie just needs more grub! Teeth likely too, so good luck there. Both of mine were terrors whilst they were teething.

My baby is now 14 weeks and i went through something similar at 12 weeks as did my friend's baby a day older than mine. There is clearly a growth spurt at 12 weeks. Hang in there!

Yeah ditto growth spurt. Perhaps try a couple of bottles closer together before bedtime? DD2 now 18 weeks, was breasfed at this age but having shown definite capabilities for sleeping through started waking all the time at this age, just when you think you can see the light at the end of the tunnel and all that. It should only last a little while.

Also might be feeling a bit clingy cos of weaning from breast so needing more attention to make up for it. Producing more saliva than he can swallow maybe slightly offputting for him too!

Hope you get some sleep soon.
