25 weeks (5-6 months) won’t nap longer than 30-40 mins! Help!

Just that really. I’d love for him to get proper chunks of sleep in the day, but his eyes pop open after about 30 mins, 40 max. At the moment he’s ready for a nap after two hours being awake, I’m not following routine just his cues, is there anything I can do or is it just a matter of seeing if he manages it in the next month or so??

Sounds like he is waking up after one sleep cycle and not able to settle back again. I think consolidation of sleep cycles is a developmental thing so naps should naturally get longer and fewer in time regardless of action/inaction on your part.

Whereabouts is he napping at the moment? Does he go off for the nap without feeding/rocking/input from you?

My DS did this, whenever he woke up I gave him 10 minutes to see if he went back down again. If he didn't (or was crying a lot) I went to get him. One day he settled himself and started having longer naps. Fingers crossed this happens for you too.

If at home then he has naps in his crib, he won’t sleep longer even if I take him for a long walk, still wakes after 30/40 mins!
He’s ebf (though starting introducing solids) so preciously fell asleep feeding which was fine by me but lately he feeds then gets annoyed he is still awake so I’ve started feeding them putting him in cot and putting hand on his chest while he moans and then he drops off, I didn’t like the idea of training/CIO so I’ve always Gone with what he wanted at the time really.

DS always woke 30 min on the dot that's his sleep cycle, he didn't start to extend until he was over a year I think it was

I could have written this post when DS was that age. Between 6 and 7 months he started napping longer. He just randomly did it one day of his own accord. He will occasionally still have 30 minutes then wake up but he will usually have at least one long nap a day now. Hang in there.

I’m so glad it’s just his age 😊 thanks everyone ! I read so many ‘sleep schedules/routines’ that say baby should be taking like 2 hour naps! I’ll see how things progress!
