Should I wake baby to feed?

My baby is almost 8 weeks old and putting on weight/eating lots etc. We feed her before bed (she is formula fed) and then we get up in the night to feed her. We normally have to wake her up to feed her and I am wondering whether we should be doing this or not? She normally stirs a lot during her sleep but doesn't wake up, and then when we wake her to feed her she takes a lot of milk so is clearly hungry. Does anyone have any advice or experience with this? Thanks!

Hi there
I have 2 kids, age 3 and 2 and I never ever wake them up for feeding. Specially night time... When they get hungry they will wake up

Aibuornotoop · 02/01/2020 22:24

No

No. I did with my first and it took forever to get her sleeping through the night.

As long as your baby is gaining weight well, then you can leave them until they wake on their own.

You only need to wake them to feed if they aren't gaining weight well.

Nooo! Don't encourage wake ups!

We FF our DD and would do a 'dream feed' at about 02:30 / 03:00 at this age. We just roused her gently, kept the room quiet & dimly lit, snuggled up with the bottle and then put her back down, and she was half asleep during most of that. We gradually moved this feed to 11pm, with the next bottle at 7am.

If babies are gaining weight don’t wake them up and enjoy your sleep.

No way! Unless you have weight issues and doctors have advised you to, never wake the baby!!

IncrediblySadToo · 02/01/2020 22:47

No way. She’s gaining weight- it’s madness to wake a sleeping baby or dream feed them
If they don’t actually need it

My little girl is 7 weeks old and has her 6 week HV check today, delayed due to Xmas. We were in the same situation and having go wake her to feed through the night. I asked my HV about potentially dropping this feed unless she woke for it and she said because she is gaining weight and having wet and dirty nappies then it's fine to just let her sleep and not wake her x

If no issues with weight just let her sleep
