9 month old suddenly waking 4 hourly, ravenous!

DD had been sleeping through 7-6 after a big bottle (9oz), apart from teething/illness related hiccups. But she has suddenly started waking, like clockwork, for feeds at 11pm and 3am. Nothing else will settle her, and she really seems ravenous and will demolish about 6oz each time.

I don't want her to get into the habit of "needing" night feeds but I really don't think its a comfort thing at the moment, she seems genuinely hungry. I've tried feeding her more during the day, and she is eating a lot, but still waking in the night for more.

Anyone else had babies of similar age do a similar thing, and did they grow out of it on their own?

It certainly sounds like a growth spurt and I'm sure she'll grow out of it when she's ready.
My DD is also 9 months old and for the last week or so she has been waking once a night for an extra feed.
Before that she was more likely to sleep through than wake up.
I think we just have to feed them as much as they need and wait for the phase to pass.

DD seemed to have a growth spurt just before 9 months I think but then I also realised 4 teeth were coming through - so could be teeth? It will pass. Although when I have enough of waking once a night I send DH for a night to try and settle (always fails now and I end up feeding) but then the next night she sleeps through as if she thought it wasn't worth waking up if she had to be unsettled for up to an hour before being fed!

Thanks for replying, I guess I'll just ride it out then! Same again last night, she got through 20 oz milk when she would normally have slept

And only had 20 min nap ALL DAY ugh.

Tapster I'll try being a bit more liberal with the calpol and see if that helps.
