Nearly 10 month old still waking up in night

I’m struggling so much with lack of sleep. I have a 4 year old whose only just sleeping through the night, does wake up occasionally but sleeping better. My 9.5 month old wakes up about 3 times a night, he just screams, don’t remember my eldest doing that. Once I give him milk he falls back to sleep but I don’t, so I get around 2 hours sleep a day if that. Going back to work in a few weeks and can’t survive. Any tips on how to solve his sleeping problems. Also why do they wake up screaming? I’ve never had that before, crying yes but not screaming.

Hi, two hours sleep! How are you managing to function. Does he have a dummy? My 3 year old used to do this and still does sometimes, I thought when he as younger it was a bottle he needed which I gave until 18 months, now I realise it was separation anxiety, I stopped offering the bottle and gave water instead ( incase he was thirsty) which he was fine about but he needed me to be with him.

What happens if he sleeps next to you, does he still scream when he wakes? If yes I'd assume nightmares or painful wind.
It's pretty tough, but this is why my DH and I take turns to sleep next to our 18m in his single bed, he wakes up so often without someone next to him, just needs the body heat/comfort of someone else there. It has made work really really hard.

@Babs5693 no I’m not managing to be honest, I’m exhausted all day, I gave him a dummy when he was 4 months and he took it but now spits it out. I have tried water it’s no difference. I might try funny again tho tonight when he wakes up. Thanks for that.

@hir1987 he sleeps in my bed still haven’t moved him to his nursery yet. I didn’t think of wind actually that could be a possibility. Thank you.
