Did anyones DC's make a 'nest' to sleep in at bedtime?

My DS, then aged 3, used to make an elaborate nest on the floor, after he'd been put to bed, with his duvet and pillow. It was filled with soft toys carefully arranged, and he would curl up in the middle, often with his dressing gown as a blanket. We used to put him back in bed at our own bedtime, and he was never upset about it when he woke in the morning. This happened nearly every night until he was nearly 5. No-one at nursery or other parents locally had experienced this, it never worried me, I'm just interested to hear other parents' experiences. (DS is now in mid teens.)

Ds1 does this - he nestles down into his duvet on the floor vbetween his bed and his brothers cot.

DS (4) does this, drags his duvet off the bed and carries it to his place of choice

dd1 often makes a camp/nest thing especially if she has been put up to bed but not quite tired, arranges her bears etc, reads them a story sorts out her duvet, pillows etc and then falls asleep amongst it all. Normally when I go to bed I remove the books etc but otherwise leave her as she is (currently se is also in the habit of removing her pj's and nappy and sleeping in the nude and after my she'll wet the bed face she has actually had a dry bed every morning so may have cracked the being dry at night thing as well (wasnt expecting to do that yet as shes not 3 yet)

dd2 sleeps everywhere! takes blankets and toys and nests in a corner of her room

Actally I think DS may be a chimp...he makes a new nest every night!

Fascinating reading, all. I wondered if it was some primeval instinct coming to the fore. Thought it would be better if they slept on futon mattresses instead of beds, could just roll them up in the day to create a much bigger room to play in!

DSs enjoyed this when DS1 was around 7 and DS2 was 3. They both set up the play tent in one of their bedrooms and slept all night in it (on foam cushions) for weeks.
