My 16 month old has always been a fairly good sleeper - not great, but not terrible either - waking once or twice a night, sometimes not at all, usually just to find his dummy, and resettling easily with a little patting and shushing. After his 1st birthday there were some rough patches, which we put down to teething, illness, vaccinations, etc. but overall he’s been OK.
Until now. Recently he has become a terrible sleeper, waking several times a night and screaming to be taken out of the crib and out of the room. The only thing that settles him is being put in the bed with us, but even then he’s fidgeting all night. He keeps trying to push us out of the bed in his sleep so we end up right on the edges, not daring to move in case we wake him. I am currently nearly 8 months pregnant so you can imagine how uncomfortable this is! I hoped this would be just another phase but he keeps getting worse and worse! Our doctor told us to sleep-train him quickly before he can walk otherwise we’ll never get him to stay in bed!
My question is... how can we fix it? Without resorting to CC or CIO? Did anyone have a terrible sleeper who miraculously started sleeping?
We are all so, so tired - please give us hope!
