I feel so different, not a complete zombie, not grumpy, can think straight, it's only today that I realised just how much the early wake ups were affecting me. He actually woke at 5am but I gave him some milk and left him in his cot and he went back to sleep til 7.30 and so did I.

I don't know what to do tomorrow tho, give him milk at 5am again? I know that will be starting another habit that I will want to break at some point.

He's 15 months old, should he be able to sleep til at least 6am without needing milk?

Oh tutter

That is very tough with a newborn too.

We are still c5.45.

Huge sympathy...........

oneplusone · 03/08/2007 15:38

Oh, Tutter you poor thing, I know EXACTLY how you feel, I have BEEN THERE and done that too many times to count. The weird thing is you kind of get used to it and think you're doing ok until you actually get a full nights sleep like I did last night and you feel so good you realise that actually you weren't doing that well on around 4-5 hours sleep a night.

I find the early wake ups worse than when DS was feeding in the night for some reason. It's supposed to get easier not worse I thought!

What time does he go to bed and how much milk does he have?
If he has say 9oz at 7/8ish then 'technically' he should be able to last until 6.30/7ish the next day.
Obviously there is no set guide though...

oneplusone · 03/08/2007 15:47

Cos he was waking up so early he's been going to bed at around 6.30 which is nice as I get a bit of an evening (altho i have to be in bed by around 10 in order to get up at 5am).

He had an afternoon nap today whereas he normally has a morning one, so have no idea when to put him to bed tonight.

I am in no way getting my hopes up that he might sleep til 7am again tomorrow morning, am fully expecting a 5am wake up but today I just don't care as I feel so good.

can he have a word with my two please

dazedandconfunded · 03/08/2007 20:15

Maybe the warm weather has zonked him? (In which case, you need a microclimate for hsi room ....)

TheGoddessBlossom · 03/08/2007 20:30

hmm, it must be something in the water. This morning my DS2 woke at 5.45am, it's normally something heinous like 5.11. Gave him a bottle and he fell asleep again till 7.30am. This NEVER happens. DS1 meanwhile, woke at 7am, which also NEVER happens. Usually 6am. I have now officially written this down though on here, which means I have jinxed it from ever happening again and I am doomed to forever be having breakfast at 6.30am, lunch at 11am, and going to bed at 9 like a 12 year old.

mummynumnum · 03/08/2007 21:06

My dd was waking around 4.30-5.00am recently and was exhausting. Was getting up and then she would be grumpy within 30mins so knew perhaps should not have got her up. the last couple of mornings I have given her some milk and then left her to it. i thought she would never go back to sleep, but within about 15mins she does, even sleeping to 7.20 the other morning.

popsycal · 04/08/2007 05:47

gp
good morning earlier risers

eandh · 04/08/2007 05:50

morning I have been up since 4.45 with dd2 I am so tired (thursday night she was up from 12-3 and then again at 5!)

popsycal · 04/08/2007 06:17

ds2 has been up and down all night again then really unsettled since 3:30. ds1 woke at 5 snd got up. ds2 then slept for a bit but woke at aroun 5:50.

Why can't I have those children who Lie In?!??!?

wigglebumsmum · 04/08/2007 07:17

we get up at 5am too if its any consoloation. This morning we had a lie in though until half past five!!!!! Not sure how to get him to sleep longer/later but if anyone does have a solution I'd love to hear it!!!

PyjamaQueen · 04/08/2007 07:22

Some children are just early risers. I heard my 8yo getting up around 5.45 but I just tried to ignore her. It probably isn't much consolation now, but there will come a time when they can get themselves up and amuse themselves until you get up!!

oneplusone · 05/08/2007 17:04

He woke up at 7.45am yesterday, I kept going in to check on him from 6am onwards as he has NEVER slept for that long in one go.

Today he was up at around 6.15 which is better than anything beginning with a 5.

I have no idea what's causing it, could be the weather I suppose, but was it this hot 3 days ago? I can't remember.

Anyway, I am very slightly starting to get my hopes up that the 5am wake up is on it's way out, but no doubt tomorrow it'll be back.

Feel a bit groggy today, I'm still waking up early even if he's not, think it'll take a while for my body clock to adjust.
