Toddler still asleep...as usual

Ds1 is 2y6m. The past few weeks he's slept past 8am every morning despite sleeping through from 7-7.30. I've reintroduced his nap. He's sleeping about 90 minutes but it hasn't reduced the night time sleep.

Am I right to be worried?

He is on a prescribed iron supplement and has been for two months

Maybe he’s just a big sleeper, my kids are.

HalyardHitch · 21/07/2019 09:54

That would be the best case scenario, I guess. He's still sleeping...

Mine went to bed for 8pm and were up at 5.45. You’ve got a sleeper! Embrace it!

Although, actually, he’s still asleep now? No waking up time? So done 15 hours straight? I’d be waking him now and checking him.

I think that if you are worried you should talk to your gp again.
Is your ds active and lively when he is awake? Eating well?
What led up to the iron Px? When is that situation going to be reviewed? Did he have a full blood count done?

FenellaMaxwell · 21/07/2019 09:58

You say the past few weeks - what did his sleep look like before that?

AllFourOfThem · 21/07/2019 09:59

My similar aged child does 7pm until at least 8am (sometimes gone 9am) every night.

MrsElizabethShelby · 21/07/2019 10:01

Have you woken him OP? My 3 year old likes his sleep but only sleeps absolute max 13 hours no nap.

Ellapaella · 21/07/2019 10:10

I have a 4 year old that regularly sleeps for more than 13 hours on a weekend and he's done this since he was little. He often has to get up early during the week when I'm working so I think he needs the catch up given he never really napped in the day.
Does your toddler nap in the daytime op? I'd say 13 hours was ok at that age, depends on what his previous sleeping pattern was really.

One of my children will was like this and still is a massive sleeper. The other one never was.

HalyardHitch · 21/07/2019 10:46

He woke up at 10.15 in the end.

He's under the paediatrician as a suspected coeliac but unfortunately due to bad medical advice when he was very poorly at 10 months he is already gluten free so we can't test for it. This is how the low iron levels came about.

He has always slept a lot and been a poorly child but now we are managing him as if he is coeliac and he's on the iron he's been great. However this past four weeks he's been clocking up around 15/16 hours a day of sleep.

Around 13/14 hours overnight and a two hour nap.

He always used to.be 7.15-6.30 ish and then 12.30-2.30 nap. But the notable increase in sleep has hugely concerned me

Definitely take him back to GP. He needs a proper physical exam and blood tests.

Rachelover40 · 21/07/2019 13:19

It sounds wonderful to me. Enjoy not being woken at the crack of dawn!
There's nothing wrong with him, that's just how he is.

HalyardHitch · 21/07/2019 15:07

It would be fab but his 18 month old brother tends to start the day before six! Grin
