Did your baby go through sleep regression?

DS is 16 weeks and is pretty poor at naps but for the last few weeks has been sleeping well, roughly 11 hours at night with one feed around 3am. Everyone keeps telling me to not expect it to last because he’s approaching the 4 month sleep regression. Do all babies go through this? Did your baby? Is it something temporary if it happens?

No. DD sailed over the four month mark without anything changing. Naps were the same, still needed feeding to sleep, slept 8/9 hours a night (did this from 11 weeks).

We had ups and downs at other points - started waking at night at 7 months, feeding to sleep stopped working at 9 months, she went through a weird patch at 18 months where it took ages for her to settle - but she would self settle and slept through again by then.

So I'd agree that things do change - often in unexpected directions. But you won't necessarily get hit by the four month regression!

Every baby is different, but we did get hit by the 4 month sleep regression. DS was sleeping 10pm-6am from 8 weeks. Then hit 4 months and it all went so horribly wrong. He's now 9 months and still waking every 2 hours most nights.

No, but I think we were incredibly lucky Grin.

Mine are late teens now, and I am not sure that sleep regression was a 'thing' then. I don't remember it being mentioned.

However, my first never slept, so I wouldn't have noticed it happening if it did - unless they last around 3 years. My second slept brilliantly from the start, so I assume not.

@Sunflower160 I'm in exactly same position

DS is 16 weeks and also sleeps from 10pm-7.30am with one feed at about 3am. I'm trying to be stricter with naps, he'll do the first two in his cot but then protests and wants to be held for the remainder.
We haven't entered the sleep regression yet but my DD who is 4 didn't regress so I'm hoping he is the same...

Just need to sort out those damn naps!!

Nope

Sunflower160 · 10/07/2019 16:32

@moleeye oh yes very similar position! The only consistent nap is around 1.5 hours after he wakes for day. He will have about 40 mins in his crib upstairs but refuses for the rest of the naps! I can cope having difficulty with naps but would reallyyy like to keep the decent night sleep!

@Sunflower160 snap! 40 mins seems to be about the max he'll do as well.

Complete agree on the sleep front! Long may it continue 🤞🏼🤞🏼
