When did your DC reliably sleep through?

DD is 4 months old and goes to bed ok at 7pm but then wakes at midnight, then 2am (for about 2 hours) and then is up for the day at 5am. We are really struggling I'm constantly feeling in a fog.

I'm aware I could have months/ years of this to come yet but want to know if there's light at the end of a (possibly very long) tunnel.

When did your DC sleep through?

My eldest is 8 and I can't think of one time he's ever slept all night

14mo and our DS's routine is the same as yours. Struggling a bit!

DD slept through 7pm - 5-6am pretty reliably from about 2 1/2 months, very consistently from 5-6 months. We did work really hard to make sure that she could put herself to sleep (always into cot awake) and once we were confident she was gaining weight (EBF, she went from 4th centile to 65th) we tried other things before feeding, ie, counting to 30 (lots of times she'd quiet down and go back to sleep) or DH changing nappy and then putting her back in cot. We also would leave her in the cot in the mornings/after naps for 15-20 minutes if she was happily chatting so she got used to being in there and not being afraid.

She does sometimes wake up in the night now but she just sings/chats to her stuffed kitty and then goes back to sleep on her own. On occasion she's been awake an hour or more, but she's almost always happily trying out her new words or talking to her kitty so we leave her to it.

What happens at 2am when DD wakes up? Do you still night feed? If she's gaining weight well, I'd ask your pediatrician to confirm but we were told that DD did not NEED to be fed during the night so we used that as an absolute last resort. I made sure to feed her 5-6 times during the day to give us confidence she was getting enough calories. When I did feed etc, I always did it in the dark, and quiet, just gave cuddles and then straight back in the cot after finished. We also moved her to her own room at 3 months which was pretty game changing for everyone. It's much easier to take a breath and realize that they have been upset for LITERALLY 30 seconds, rather than rushing right over to pick up etc.

My sleep doctor also gave me some really good advice - we (humans) do not sleep through the night. As adults, we normally wake up through out the night between sleep cycles but then go straight back to sleep without remembering waking. Kiddos wake up too, helping them also learn to go back to sleep without getting upset (long term, short term there might be some crying!) is an important skill.

6 years.
6 long years.

DC1 15 months, DC2 about 2 years, DC3 is 6 months off and a long way off. Once we got through the teething phase where we'd be up for hours trying to get them back to sleep wake ups became a lot less of a problem though - there would only be 1/2 a night and if I was still feeding DH went and got them and I'd then feed in our bed and cosleep after that.

It varies massively. DD was sleeping through at 6months but it has been stits and starts ever since. She has blocks where she is a fab sleeper and then times when she is up for hours and hours at night. They all go through phases.
