Advice needed!!! Extremely stubborn 1 year old will not sleep

Hi,

I am after some advice as I am at my wit's end. My 1 year old has never learnt to self-settle which is completely my fault - I have always rocked her to sleep and put her in her cot asleep... (I know, I know 🙈.) Her sleep has never been good, but I could always go into her room rock her back to sleep and within 5 mins be tucked up in bed myself. Now THE SECOND I lay her down in her cot she is wide awake, spins over stands up, hysterically screaming and nothing will help unless I pick her up. Last night we were awake from 1.30 until 3am with her crying, screaming, throwing her dummy across the room etc. Not only is it so upsetting it is exhausting and affecting her daytime naps now too. I have tried leave her to cry it out but after 15 mins of hysterically screaming I just feel so cruel I end up going back in. She is so stubborn I feel like she will never go off on her own. :(

Please help, what can I do?

Oh, sympathy! We're just bumping this one for you as your post seemed to have slipped down the pile a litte. We hope that you get some help... remember everything's a phase! (Personally though, I never had the stomach for the screaming so just gave in and let them sleep with me. Misery loves company. ;D This is probably bad advice though so do ignore).
