Newborn used to sleep in crib, now doesn't

Hi all.

DD is now 13 days old, so still very little, but up until yesterday was quite happy to sleep in her crib. However, last night she was very unsettled and was crying/demanding a feed every 45 minutes to an hour. I would feed her, change her, wind her ect and she would fall asleep in my arms, but as soon as I put her in her crib she would be screaming within 10 minutes. This has continued until today. I will feed her and she'll fall asleep in my arms, but as soon as I put her down she'll start crying.

I've heard that newborns go through a growth spurt at this age and that can make them unsettled. Could that be the cause? She is formula fed.

Thanks! Smile

Oh, forgot to mention, but when I put her down she will frequently grunt/strain and kick her legs. I don't think she's constipated as she has frequent dirty nappies. She grunts/strains occasionally when in my arms, but not nearly as frequently.

Hi op, she's still really really new so I think it's just a case of her being a newborn ! Newborns do make really weird grunting noises - I remember thinking dd sounded like a farm animal! She would keep me up with every shuffle and grunt.

If you think her belly is hurting (which it may well be because it's all new to her) try doing bicycle legs.

Lastly, take it easy on yourself. Your baby has been with you safely for 9 months and it's a bit scary for her and for you. If she needs a cuddle, definitely give it to her. It's just her way of feeling safe with you right now.

Congratulations on your new arrival op.

We went through this stage. Baby was settled in Moses basket in early days then I ended up carrying her everywhere and co sleeping. Would you consider co sleeping?

TheRhythmlessMan · 29/03/2019 08:06

Hang on... not sure if they recommend co sleeping with ff babies..

Sounds like she is suffering from wind (the grunting / kicking / waking after 10 mins) - maybe try winding for a bit longer to make sure you've really got it all up? I found infacol useful too.

It might be she's cluster feeding and falling asleep in between and then realising she hasn't had quite enough.

That happened to us (also ff). My midwife recommended to tickle his foot which would irritate him and wake him up. It did as well.

Sounds normal to me. Congratulations on your baby.

Sounds like two week growth spurt to me! She is probably genuinely hungry and wanting to cluster feed, nothing to do with not liking the crib. Usually passes within a day or two, then there’s another one at about three weeks and at six weeks.
