Need tips for waking baby to take 2nd boob!

Hi there!

Just wondering if anyone has tips of how to wake my baby so I can get a 2nd boob into her during night feeds? Shes only 10 days old so we're completely in the throws of newborn life and I don't expect any sort of routine to be established yet, however on the nights where she's managed to stay awake for a second feed off of my other boob she has slept for considerably longer. But there are many occassions where she falls asleep on me and will NOT wake for me to offer the other side to fill her up. The midwife mentioned blowing on her face or tickling her feet but she has absolutely none of it! When she has a feed from just one side we end up being up every hour or 2 for top ups. Any ideas welcome?

I think being up every hour or two at the beginning is fairly normal for a breastfed baby at this stage. At least it was for my little one. One thing you could try is changing her nappy - that might wake her up enough to have another feed.

Wow every 2 hours @Loubyloulou88, I'm up every hour with my DS who is 7 months, I'd count yourself lucky!

Thanks @motherlandgasp, I've tried doing a change between boobs tonight and we've successfully managed to get another feed in before putting her down! Great idea👍🏻. @laura2017, I'm not complaining, and do not think myself unlucky, just seeking a bit of advise that is all x

Congratulations! They told me in the hospital to have cotton wool in a bowl of water and rub her feet with it to wake her as she fed. Rubbing feet/ears is good :)

Ooh @marlena1 that sounds like it could do the trick too, thanks! I've tried tickling her feet but she's not bothered 😂 x
