Once your baby slept through, did they continue to?

My DS (12 weeks) has gone from waking up for 3-5 nightly feeds to sleeping through (first time last night) in the space of a few days.

Can I safely call this a fluke? As he's never got close to sleeping through before...

DS has just turned 1 and he sleeps through about 1 night a month, just to get our hopes up! We then spend the next few nights trying to do everything exactly the same in the hopes he'll keep doing it, but no joy. So it might be a fluke, but fingers crossed for you that it isn't.

GlossyTaco · 15/01/2019 08:55

It's hard to tell. My son slept through for about 3 nights around this time. He then started teething , and now at 15 months he still wakes at least 3 times each night.

Emma145 · 15/01/2019 08:58

My baby slept through from 10 weeks to 16 weeks and then hasn't again since (he's 8 months) but my friends baby has slept through from 3 months and is the same age as mine so hopefully yours is the same :)

QwertySmalls · 15/01/2019 08:58

For my children they were 2-3 years old before they slept through.

1sttimeDD · 15/01/2019 08:59

My DD was sleeping through (9-7) from a similar age. She then had a bit of a blip around 16 weeks where she was waking every 2-3 hours but was easily settled. That lasted around a week. She's now 24 weeks and sleeps through with the rare occasion where she'll cry out randomly in the middle of the night which wakes me but she's fast asleep!

bruffin · 15/01/2019 09:02

Both mine slept through from 12 weeks. Ds carried on until he was 2 then was not good for about 6 months.
Dd was great until she was 5 or 6 then would not fall asleep until 12 at night

SoyDora · 15/01/2019 09:03

DD1 slept through for a week at about 7 months. Didn’t do it again until she was 3.5 😩.
DD2 slept through for the first time at 15 months. She’s 3 now and has never woken in the night since!
Sleep isn’t linear, things happen all the time that change the pattern.

Bobbiepin · 15/01/2019 09:04

DD slept through from about 8 weeks (roughly 11pm to 5am then fed and went back to sleep) but then the 4 month sleep regression happened and she fed every two hours round the clock for an hour at a time. This went on for a month and broke me. She's now down at 6.45ish and up around 6.15am at 14 mo.

PostNotInHaste · 15/01/2019 09:04

Both of mine followed a pattern of sleeping 6 hour chunks in the day first then gradually switching round to the longer bit at night then right through to 12 hours . Once they got there they were pretty consistent. DS continued to sleep loads, with DD things bit me badly in the backside when she was 4.

RiverTam · 15/01/2019 09:12

DD first slept through at around 16 weeks so I thought, hurrah, that's it, no more night feeds. And so never fed her at night again, which in retrospective I think was a mistake. Not one that's done her any lasting harm (she's 9 now) , but I think the fact that she did it sometimes didn't mean that she wasn't waking up crying because she was hungry at other times.

timeforachangeithink · 15/01/2019 09:13

My son slept through from 10 weeks to 14 weeks and I don't think he's done it since, he's 3.5 now!

MeOldChina · 15/01/2019 09:13

No, but as a trend sleep did continue to get better. We didn't experience the 4mo sleep regression thankfully.

DS did do a flukey full night at about 3-4 months but still usually woke twice a night until about 9months. After that it dropped to once per night and since we stopped night feeds at about 16 months he has been going right through. If he does wake up it's usually before 10pm so that's fine.

SuperstarDJ · 15/01/2019 09:15

DD1 slept through from 10 weeks and still does at 2.5yrs old. DC2 is a few weeks old and I know I’m not going to be so lucky again!

confusedandemployed · 15/01/2019 09:16

DD slept through after her 2nd jabs. Whilst we did have the occasional blip, usually related to a developmental leap, she has slep through ever since.
She's nearly 6 now and did 12.5hrs last night. She does like her sleep.

thaegumathteth · 15/01/2019 09:20

Once ds slept through it lasted but he was 3 years old!

Dd slept through from about 6ish weeks but still had the odd period now and again where she’d wake in the night. Nothing major though.

ZogTheOrangeDragon · 15/01/2019 09:23

Mine slept through on a regular basis from a very early age but there are all kinds of development phases and sleep regressions which meant it could never be guaranteed and even now, years later, sometimes they will wake up and need reassurance to go back to sleep.

the99 · 15/01/2019 09:25

Exactly what @ZogTheOrangeDragon said!

Development, vaccinations, nightmares, illnesses, overstimulation, too cold, too hot...

Generally they sleep but often they need a bit of a cuddle.

RicStar · 15/01/2019 09:25

Not mine - all 3 slept through at 12 weeks but not by 6 months. I think mine got too nosy to feed well in the day time plus teeth / colds.

Noonefightslikegaston · 15/01/2019 19:54

Nope. My daughter is 3.5. Slept through from 6months. Did that for a year then hit 2.5 an lots of phases of screaming in the night for a few weeks at a time. Now 3.5 and waking multiple times a night.

My nephew slept through until about age 4. He is now 8 and wakes multiple times and struggles to get to sleep before 10pm.

SPARKS17 · 15/01/2019 20:01

I had 3 blissful weeks of sleeping through until the 4 month sleep regression hit. It was awful multiple wake ups! At 24 weeks I’m generally on one wake up between 7pm/7am and that is just fine!

Babies are changing so quickly enjoy the good sleep while you can!

JWbs · 16/01/2019 03:12

My DS started sleeping through from 8 weeks to 13 weeks and then that all changed and never went back. He's 7 months now and I go into him multiple times from the moment he goes to bed. Sometimes I'm up for hours with him during the night if it's a bad one.. I live on about 4 hours sleep every night. I'm a mombie ConfusedGrin

tryinganewname · 16/01/2019 03:41

DD is 6 months and we've had 2 sleep throughs so in my experience, no. (Hence why I'm posting at this hour, she seems to think it's party time now).

SwagQueen · 16/01/2019 07:27

Thanks all. He seems to be sleeping all the way through... it's a bloody miracle if you ask me as he's never done this and all of a sudden he's now sleeping! He's slept for 12 hours the past 2 nights!
