6.5 month old needs to nap every 2 hours

My lo has 3 naps a day - 45 mins to an hour and naturally fell into this routine from v young and from sleep point of view is v easy baby. However, it's awkward when we're out and about, at his classes etc,as he always ends up screaming if we're out longer than 2 hrs and he doesn't like napping in his buggy as is used to darkened room. I thought by now that he would start to be awake for longer periods. Have tried extending awake periods gradually but he gets very upset/agitated. Does anyone know if this will change as he gets a bit older (and when??), or is the solution to try to 'train' him, to say, have 2 naps a day? Any advice welcome.

my ds was similar. i just had to try to arrange my day around it. he would sleep in a moving pram though, which helped. he now has one long sleep (1-2 hrs) and a half hour but that built up over time.

btw, it is a pain, though, isn't it!

Blimey drangonfruit, I have the opposite problem to you in that dd is a terrible napper and I have to coerce her into having a nap! She has 3 naps a day too, 30-45mins usually.
It sounds like he is telling you he needs the sleep, so I'd go with it for now. From other babies I know it seems like 6-9 months is the average for going from 3 to 2 naps.
Must be a pain that you can't get out and about, but it's probably more important at this age that he sleeps well during the day (and night) and classes can come later.

I meant to say that dd is nearly 8 months and still having 3 naps.

My DD now 7.5 months at 6.5 months reduced from 4 45mins naps per day to two 1.5 hour naps. She did so naturally - so I would give it another month. DD also prefers to nap in the cot at a push the car, but now hardly ever in the pushchair only if she is really overtired. It is restricting but its better for them really. Now I choose classes that fit in with her nap times and arrange early lunch so I am back in the car or at home by 1/1.30pm. Its a pain but its not forever.
