My 2.7 year old has always been a terrible sleeper. She went through a period of about 6 months where she'd mostly sleep through or could be resettled easily, but since we moved her to a big girl bed it's been horrendous. We started off with a stair gate on her door but removed it when she was getting so distressed she was standing there rattling it and screaming so much she was about to make herself sick.
She only wants to sleep in bed with me. I used to be able to get her into bed and to read stories and sit with her until she went to sleep, but she inevitably would wake up in the night and start wandering around the house. She even fell asleep on the landing a few times! After a period of illness of Christmas she was so unwell and distressed I let her sleep in my bed and since then I can't get her out. She will no longer go into her bed for stories or lie there while I lie with her. She now only wants my bed.
She's also been going to bed later and later. Some nights it's 10pm until she goes to sleep (although does wake up late at 8am). We've tried to limit or cut out her nap but she then starts falling asleep around 4/5pm so I think she still needs it.
She got a new baby brother 4 months ago who it still in my room (and more often than not also in my bed!) But this behaviour only started about a month ago with the introduction of the big girl bed.
I've tried rapid return but it I can't physically pin her down into the bed and she immediately leaps out and runs out of the room and get more and more distressed. I don't know what to do!!
