Is 15+ hours per day too much sleep for an 18 month old?

Since we got back from our holiday last week my DD has seemed to be sleeping a lot more than before. She goes to bed between 8 and 8.30pm and doesn't get up til 9.30-10am, then by 1.30 she's ready for a nap and can sleep 2 hours or more. Just seems like a lot more than before when she was generally 8 til 8 and half an hour to 2 hours nap. Could it just be a growth spurt tiring her out or something? Or should I take her to the docs?

Is she walking more?

Ds1 slept like this until he was 2.5 - book a baby sitter and make the most of the lie ins.

Yes she was quite late to start walking and only started walking properly independently a couple of months ago.

That's why her sleep has picked up. that and a growth spurt could be enough to knock her flat for a month or two.

my ds2 is 2.5 and he sleeps for 11 hrs at night and at least 2 hrs in the afternoon!

As long as she is not lethargic when awake i wouldn't worry!

ForcesSweetheart · 22/06/2007 15:16

Thanks. I'll stop fretting.

DD2 is 20 months and sleeps from 6.15pm - 7.30am and 12noon-2.30pm and we still have to wake her after her nap!

She is growing well on it, loves her bed just like her mum! Shame DD1 is the opposite!

my ds slept 12-13 hrs a night and had two 2hr naps a day at this age.Was bliss!

Miaou · 22/06/2007 15:28

Sounds fine to me. My ds is 22 months, generally sleeps from 7-7 at night plus two hours during the day. He loves his bed !

Dd1 was the incredible sleeping baby too - would easily sleep for 16+ hours in a day until she was quite old.

My ds3 he wakes at 7.30am has a bottle, goes back asleep until 10.30am, then has a nap at 2.30pm and another at 6pm, then its bedtime at 9.30pm he sleeps right through the night zzzzzzzz.

He starts nursery in 2 weeks i am gonna ask for a discount
