3 year old still doesn’t sleep through the night

DS2 has been the worst sleeper known to man, he was up every half an hour or so for his entire first year, it was horrific I honestly thought I was going to die of sleep deprivation

He turned 3 a few weeks ago and although he’s got better as he’s got older but he still wakes up every 2&1/2-3 hours, even when he’s in bed with me (which is most nights)

How can I get him to sleep longer?
I’m so over this now I just want to sleeeeeeep

I don't know but your not alone. My 6mo DD sleeps much better than my nearly 4yo DS!

WhoKnewBeefStew · 29/11/2018 16:32

My dd was small when born 5lb 8oz so ate every two hours. She was rubbish at sleeping and I can remember hearing ringing in my ears I was so tired...

She had her first night uninterrupted sleep when she was 5 (sorry op), but it did end up being only a 2/3 time wake up call towards the end.

She now puts in a solid 11 hrs a night, i, on the other hand, haven’t been able to sleep without waking out of habit now

Well misery loves company as they say Grin

I also have one younger that sleeps better scared, I just don’t get it!
One of my older ones didn’t sleep through till they were 5 either Who but he wasn’t as loud and unsettled in the night so it didn’t feel this painful, DS2 just screams out and then wails for about 10 minutes every couple of hours, I’m losing my mind!

You’ve probably already considered these but in case you haven’t:

-same daily bedtime routine with wind-down time before bed
-no screens in the evening
-don’t rush in each time he wakes up but wait to see what happens for a few minutes
-talk to him and ask why he’s waking (bad dream, etc)
-check bedroom not too hot
-get him checked by doctor to make sure there isn’t a medical cause

Same. My almost 2 yr old worst sleeper ever. Doesn't even nap for long and wakes up every single night.

He was a small baby and a few weeks early but his brother sleeps through

so it's just really exhausting being woken up over and over day after day

I feel your pain

MutantDisco · 29/11/2018 19:36

It's normal. DS2 is 30 months and doesn't STTN. DS1 is 6 and has only started going reliably through the night this past 6 months. They both get up at hell o'clock Grin

mumto2babyboys · 29/11/2018 19:42

mine are up before dawn as well

No advice I’m afraid. Going through this with my 3 year old. Wants “mommy cuddles” every hour/2 hours. I’m 6 months pregnant and bloody Nackered!!! I can’t see where we’re going wrong!!!!!
