Trying to get an average age of when a newborn will sleep right through the night. Do bottle fed babies do it quicker then breastfed?

When DS was 8 weeks old he slept for 12-14 hours straight through. Blissful.

This lasted six to eight eeeks until he was roughly 4.5 months old.

He’s 2.5 years old now and most nights he’s up at least once Sad

Dinosaursdontgrowontrees · 19/11/2018 22:11

Dd
11 to 7 at 5 weeks
7 to 7 about 5 months

Ds
11 to 7 at 6 weeks
7 to 7 at 11 months

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 19/11/2018 22:16

Dc1-6 weeks
Dc2- 8 weeks (3 corrected)
Dc3- 14 months
Dc4- 19 months (although in fairness he does have bad allergies & asthma that would have been making him feel rotten)
Dc5- currently 15 months & no signs of it happening.

I never told anyone about dc1 & 2 at the time for fear of cursing it with any future children. Wish I'd told anyobe that would listen given the last 3 Wink

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 19/11/2018 22:17

Meant to add. I once read that to be classed as sttn they just need to do a 5hr stretch.

Huntlybyelection · 19/11/2018 22:23

3 weeks old! It was AMAZING. She slept for about 6 hours overnight (clustered before bed then sometimes woke once). Brilliant.
Then at 6 months she stopped doing it. Until she was about 2 1/2.

That sucked.

HungryChocoHippo · 19/11/2018 22:30

DS1 slept 7pm-7/7.30am from 8 weeks and was breastfed, DS2 slept 7pm-7/7.30am from 10 weeks and was bottle fed.

Namelesswonder · 19/11/2018 22:35

DD1 - 2 years, DD2 - 8 years old.

AuditAngel · 19/11/2018 22:38

dS after sleep training, about 15 months.

DD1 midnight to 6am at 4 weeks, 7-7 consistently from 6 weeks

DD2 about 6 months, but from 2 years old slept in my bed until she was 8

happydays1983 · 19/11/2018 22:38

My baby girl is 12 weeks.
Goes to bed approx half 6pm.
Dream feed around 10pm and doesn't feed again till 4 or 5am. Has went on till 6am but she still wakes up in between if her dummy has fallen out.
Then can go back to sleep till around 8 am.
It's still not a peaceful night for us anyway but grateful we get some hours sleep.

TokyoSushi · 19/11/2018 22:39

DS - 22 Months
DD - 3 years 3 months

They were up anything between 4 & 10+ times per night, it was utterly horrific!

They're 7 & 5 now and I was just thinking that the last time I was up with anybody in the night was the night before we went to Windsor to see the royal wedding, so May, the good times do come, eventually!

SweetheartNeckline · 19/11/2018 22:40

Have a look as ISIS (Infant Sleep Information Service). It has information about biologically normal sleep behaviours for humans.

None of mine have ever done 12 hours -

DD1 (aged 7) slept from 8pm-6am from 11 months bar a short period aged 2.5 ish when she would wake in the middle of the night and try to play! She now does 8.30pm-7am.
DD2 (nearly 5) has never slept more than 5 hours or so unless she's in bed with another person (which is fine), she is very very easy company in the day and I figure you can't have it all.
DD3 (nearly 3) slept 8pm-3am from 18 months, then once night weaned around 2.5 she started going 8pm-5am and settling back to sleep with a cuddle til 7ish.

We are big co-sleeping fans and have never done anything vaguely sleep-training-y with any of them, although I did like the tone and recommendations in Elizabeth Pantley's No Cry Sleep Solution. Out of all three of them we've only had one properly sleepless night (DD1 aged 10 days would not settle at all, the only night we've every paced the landing and ended up taking her out in the car!) There is a huge and varied middle ground between "slept 12 hours from 6 weeks" and "parents too exhausted to function". It's ok to just muddle along!

Thebookswereherfriends · 19/11/2018 22:43

About 2 weeks after her 2nd birthday she slept for 10 hours for the first time. It was a little hit and miss for a couple of months and then became pretty consistent at 11 hours.

RandomLetters · 19/11/2018 22:54

DC1 - 9 weeks
DC2 - 10 months
DC3 - is 8 months and no sign of sleeping through yet!

All breastfed and switching to formula made no difference (around 7 months for DCs 1&2, DC3 still bf)

Neptunesgiraffe · 19/11/2018 22:58

My son slept for nearly 12 hours once when he was about three months old. The next time he slept through the night he was about five years old. And I have aged by fifteen years!!!

Mum2OneTeen · 19/11/2018 23:30

3 years old (sorry OP)

If it's any consolation, they sleep massively once they're teenagers Wink

sonypony · 20/11/2018 09:19

The night after he eventually had his tonsils out at 3years.

Childrenofthesun · 20/11/2018 09:21

DC1 - mix fed - 11pm-5am at 8 weeks.

DC2 - BF co-sleeper. I'm lucky if she sleeps all night now aged 6!

Fatted · 20/11/2018 09:23

11 weeks with the eldest and 9 weeks with the youngest. I did still have times I was up in the night with them. But 90%of the time they were going 8 hours or more.

Fatted · 20/11/2018 09:26

Both mine were formula fed BTW, but I don't think it makes any difference. I honestly don't think it's anything you can influence or change in any way. When I was pregnant, I was never woken in the night by either of them being active. I just think they had their own rhythm from the womb and settled into it. Apparently I slept through from a week old.

HildaSnibbs · 20/11/2018 09:33

DD1 3 yrs
DD2 is 4 years and I'm still waiting 😁😱

Hermie12 · 20/11/2018 09:44

DD is 4 and still only manages 2/3 nights per week!

polkadotpixie · 20/11/2018 11:22

My son is 11 weeks old and has been sleeping from 10-7 reliably for the last 3 weeks...it's bloody glorious!

I don't kid myself that it'll last though, I'm sure sleep regressions and teething with put paid to it (although I am secretly hoping he'll take after his Dad who can easily sleep for 14 hours a night if he doesn't set an alarm!)

Sparrowlegs248 · 20/11/2018 21:38

Ds1 ebf, 15 months but got up at 5am. Or 4.30......
Ds2 is 21 months , is bf but had a bottle of formula at bedtime (cows milk now) still wakes up 3 times a night.

FrigideBarjot · 20/11/2018 21:52

DD1 was 5 yo when she first slept right through. She certainly made up for it as a teenager though, we could hardly keep her awake.
I remember one occasion when she called out at 3am
"muuuummmeeeeee,"
Me, jumping out bed, "what's the matter?"
Dd : "lm bored"

Lazypuppy · 21/11/2018 22:39

1st slept through at 4 months.

4-6 months slept all the way through maybe 6 out of 7 days

Been sleeping 7pm-8/9am consistently since 6 months.

Now 10 months and i have to wake her up each morning at 7 to leave the house for work.
