Are 45 min naps an issue for 6 month old?

Over the last month my 6 month old has started taking very short naps 30 - 45 mins, I try and get him back to sleep again but this doesnt usually work out unless he’s woken up crying. He sleeps okay at night going to bed around 6:30 and waking at 7:00 with between 1-3 wakings for feeds in the night. Usually he gets around 14 hours sleep total but most of it is at the night with him only getting max 2!hours during day. I know he needs longer naps as he gets fussy towards the late afternoon and evening. I stick with the 2 hr awake time - sometimes trying to shorten these if the last nap has been short but he usually refuses to sleep until the 2 hours has passed anyway. Is this just a phase and what can I do to get him to nap longer? I try putting him down sleepy but awake which sometimes works sometimes doesn’t and aren’t ready to resort to cry it out yet.

Following with interest as my son is the same

My little one does 8 till 7 at night (11 hours) and then does 3 x 50 minutes (about 2 and a half hours) during the day. If she gets grumpy I put her in a bouncer to tire her out for a bit before going down but usually just makes her fall asleep quicker doesn't make nap longer. Could it be teething making them grumpy not the lack of sleep? That's usually the case with our wee one, we give her the herbal Ashton and packer sachet things morning and night and it is usually very obvious when we've forgotten to give her it.

Teething could be part of the problem - I’ve tried the gel with little improvement but not the sachets so will give them a go. The reason I questioned the 45 min nap is everywhere online seems to say 1 hr for 6 month olds but I just don’t seem to ever reach that golden number with mine!

My 5.5mo is the same - I can sometimes get him to go back to sleep for another sleep cycle but that is usually on me. He will often go for longer in the carrier. I’m not sure that there is a great deal you can do about it really. If he is in his cot and he wakes up happily (so no crying or whimpering) then I will often leave him until a full hour is up and he will entertain himself for a bit but he has never dropped back off again
