7 year old too scared to go to sleep on her own - help

my 7 year old just won't go to sleep on her own, she wants me to stay in the room, preferably holding her hand. She says she is scared of burglars.

I have tried everything I can think of, i've stayed with her, I've talked things over for hours, I 've reasured her with crime statistics (we live in a very very safe village), I've got cross with her (not proud), promised to check on her every two mins, offered rewards, threatened loss of treats.

Anything anyone can think of ?? Does anyone else have this problem with dc?

It's making me worry like mad, something i'm not doing right...

My eldest used to be frightened of fire at night she just grew out of it. She say talking about it (non stop it drove me mad to be honest) and finding escape routes helped. My youngest is scared of the dark I got her a nightlight.

It is irritating and irrational but I think a stage they go through often.
