17 month old awake for hours in the night!

Hi all,

My 17 month old is awake for 2 hours or more in the night and I'm so sleep deprived as a result. For various reasons we co-sleep and I'm not prepared to change that at the moment as I know it won't help.

She's wide awake, sitting up, not talking or being naughty, just awake! And as a result I'm awake too (even though I try to sleep).

She's only napping once a day, for between 45 mins and 2hrs (although I'm limiting it to one hour now.

Any ideas on why she's doing it? And is anyone else in the same boat?

Does she get outside much? My 16month old sleeps usually 2 sleeps a day for 1.5hrs each and 12hrs at night but that only happens if he has used up all his energy and had been outside in the fresh air, otherwise he won't sleep at all during the day and he wakes in the night.

Is your room completely dark?

I think some kids are just wired that way. My dd is about to turn three, and whenever she wakes in the night, it takes her two hours to get back to sleep. Always has.

We’ve tried everything, but now I just accept it. She comes in to our bed and I try to doze whilst she takes her time dropping off again.

Having said that, if you do find a fix, please do let me know because I am SO very tired Confused
