Help. 11 month old crying for two hours now. Also has a phlegmy cough

So my son learnt to sleep through last week after being a shocking sleeper. I felt like it was all a bit too good to be true. It was. We started nursery this week and he's picked up a phlegmy cough. Missed his afternoon nap today too. We've been up for two hours now crying and just not going to sleep.

Husbands tried, I've tried. Grobag off. Drink. Calpol. Snot cleared. Changed nappy. No temp. Pushing me away when cuddling or rocking to sleep. Cries when goes in cot.

Anyone got any magical advice?!!

Let him go to sleep held up on your lap, then ease him into the cot.

Prop up the mattress in the cot so he’s at an angle (put a pillow underneath the mattress at the head end).

If he’s all phlegm-y then being more upright should help.

Could it be an ear infection? That can be worse when you lie down. My son screamed the house down when he had an ear infection as a baby, there was no placating him. He was the same and wouldn’t lie in the cot and was pushing me away when I held him.

Thanks ladies. We're at three hours now...finally got him to sleep and he woke up after 5 min. Husband is in there now. Might try some neurofen...

My DS also had an ear infection around a year old and we ended up
sitting on the sofa cuddling and watching repeats of Sesame Street - the distraction finally stopped him screaming! Lying down only makes it hurt more.

OP, take him to the doctor's first thing tomorrow. If it's an ear infection, the antibiotics will work quickly and he'll be much better in 24 hours.

We had a lot of middle of the night screaming the couple of weeks after starting nursery (similar age)... doc couldn't find anything wrong so looking back it might have been some sort of severe separation anxiety / reaction to the change...

Though, yes ear infection could be it.

Sounds like ear pain. Eases when vertical, agonising when horizontal.
