Help needed to get 1yr old to settle herself to sleep!

I got my dd to go in her cot awake at about 7mths and settle herself after a few days of trying, she was then ill and wanted the comfort of being with me to get to sleep plus she had a cough so falling asleep before going in her cot stopped the coughing as much.

The problem is she had the cold and cough for a good few weeks so completely got out of the habit of going in her cot awake and now when I try it she just stands up and screams until I pick her up (at 7 mths she couldnt stand so didnt have this added problem and she went quite happily into her cot!)

What can I try to get back to where we were before I dont think I could do cc as she is very strong willed and she can scream for a long time!!! (I would give in before she would)

With the standing thing we just repeatedly went in and lay DS down without saying anything. Mighty frustrating, took about 10 days but he got the message and has gone back to self-settling. I posted about it a few weeks back and that was the general consensus, worked in the end!

Thanks Weegle, looks like its going to take a long time to get back to how she was, did your lo cry also or just stand up? how many times did you have to do it at first?

Sorry for the questions but I know when I lay dd back down she will be straight back up again!

Yep like a jack-in-the-box! Sometimes before I had left the room. And tears. I think the first night it happened it was about 50 times we had to lay him back down. It got better after a few nights (and day time naps) and was a few times, then he got the hint! It's very draining and 10 days felt like forever, but looking back it was just another of those little blips they have that in reality passed very quickly.

I'm with Weegle. It seemed like forever but in reality it was less than a week. Persistance...

Thanks, I know what you mean about if feeling like a lifetime but if it only took about 10 days thats not too bad, 50 times in the first night though wow!! Will definately give it a go now I know that it does work providing I stick to it!!!
