5 mth too big for next to me

My 5 month old is a big baby length and weight, currently filling out 6-9mth babygrows and has gone from being really settled in his next to me to banging away every time he turns or moves in it.
He has had a few naps in his cotbed in his room and I’m considering moving him in there overnight soon. Is this a bad idea? Should he have a disturbed sleep pattern for another 5 weeks just to stay in our room?

I put my DS in his own room from 4 months and had no problems whatsoever. Goes against guidance which says 6 months but we were absolutely fine and he’s a fab sleeper now.

Would his cot fit in your room? Or could someone sleep in his room for a few weeks?
It depends on your view of risk really! He is likely to be fine but there will be a small element of additional risk in him sleeping alone. Some parents are ok with that risk, some avoid it.

Really? My son was in his until 7months. He was 11lbs at birth and was in 9-12m clothes by the time he moved out of it. Maybe he was a lot more still overnight that your DS!

Do you have a video monitor? I found that definitely helped my anxiety when DS moved to his nursery.

Our baby was getting too big for the snuzpod around 4 months but as a terrible sleeper (and an anxious parent!) I didn’t want to move him into his own room - so we set up a travel cot in our room. I think we’ll still move him out before 6 months but maybe only by a couple of weeks!

Giant DS1 outgrew his Snuzpod at 4 months so we moved his big cot in our room for a few months.

We’ve since moved and the master bedroom is now a bit smaller, so when DS2 outgrows the Snuzpod, he will just have to go straight into his own room. I’m expecting him to be around 4/5 months when this happens.

I know it’s not the ideal, and the guidelines say 6 months but we tick all the other recommendations - both non smokers, breastfeeding, baby sleeps flat on back etc etc

If it was my baby, I'd move them into the cot (I did the same with DD1 at 5 months and DD2 is heading the same way at 3 months - they are both very active sleepers!) but the guidelines do say to keep them in the same room as you until 6 months. So I'd use your own judgement here.

Thanks he’s a big and tall boy 98th centile for both. He’s 3 weeks off 6 months and has been a good sleeper so far so will try another week at least in our room and then move him a little bit early. Thanks
