How do I get my 18 month old to sleep longer?

Hi All

My 18 month old DS has been waking up at 5am for as long as I can remember and its really starting to take its toll on me. He usually goes to bet around 7pm. He will have his bath around 6pm. Nothing I've tried seems to make him sleep longer, I've tried putting him to be at 8pm. I've tried an afternoon trip to the swings to tire him out, feeding him later, giving him a snack between dinner and bed. He just seems programmed to forever wake at 5am!

We've tried black out blinds, windows open, doors open, doors closed, night lights I literally don't know what I am doing wrong anymore.

He wakes up screaming too, I've tired letting him cry and not going to him straight away in case he puts himself back to sleep but no, he will not have it. It isn't his nappy waking him either.

I also have a 6 month old who still likes to wake every 2/3 hours for a feed during the night.

Please tell me, what am I doing wrong?!?!

You're absolutely NOT doing anything wrong. Some kids just are that way.

Only thing you can do is maximise your own sleep
