Your 5/6 month old nap schedules?

Was just wondering how everyone elses 5/6 month old naps are spread out throughout the day?

5.5 mo DS has
9am - 1 hour
12pm - 1.5 hours
3pm - 1 hour
6.30 bedtime.

Usually aim for 3.5 - 4 hours of naps per day. Just wondering if this was too much, it works for us but I'm interested to see what works for others.

Wow! I'm very jealous! We're stuck on half hour naps and frequent night waking!

rubyroot · 04/07/2018 17:49

Oh Jingle

Don't be jealous!

This took a lot of hard work! My baby was a nap fighter from a newborn up until recently. This has only been established for a short while- first was the first nap and now the second. Hes been having a long first nap for four weeks The second nap is more difficult. I also have frequent night wakings- have started to go in and give a dream feed about 11.30/12pm and that usually gives me about 5 hours until the next wake up.

breastfeedingdrivingmecrazy · 05/07/2018 20:48

6 months, is awake for two hours then naps for half an hour. We have a total of 3 - 4 naps per day.

Needs to get sorted as she has started to sleep badly at night I think as a result of the rubbish naps.

thingymaboob · 06/07/2018 01:25

Wake between 5:30 and 7:30
Nap 1 45 minutes about 2 hours after waking.
nap 2 45 minutes in afternoon
Nap 3 around 4pm also 45 minutes.
Knackered at 6:30 - asleep by 8pm

Goostacean · 06/07/2018 01:50

Varies but roughly...

8/8.30am - awake, for the next 2-2.5hs
1030/11am - nap for 1 hour, awake for the next 2-2.5hs
2pm - nap for 90 mins (often broken into 2 x 45mins with a feed back to sleep)
Sometimes an hour long nap around 4.30pm, if previous nap was short. Sometimes skip third one entirely.
Bedtime around 7pm, starting the bedtime routine around 6.15pm

Usually wakes once at night, anywhere between 3 and 6am, then back to sleep til 8ish.
He’s five months old, almost exactly.

Very similar to @thingymaboob actually! Just shifted by an hour, and if mine wakes at 5.30am he goes back to sleep. Very dark blackout curtains are helping a lot..

owltrousers · 06/07/2018 09:12

Ah ok, so all pretty similar. Was just slightly worried that I might be making him sleep too much, as he seems to sleep lots all of a sudden, but I guess its normal for this sort of age.

Mine is 6.5 months and does this
7.30am I wake her up
9.45-10.30am nap
1-3pm nap
7.15 in bed asleep.

thingymaboob · 06/07/2018 19:47

I think I need to consolidate the afternoon nap. Ideally it would be 90mins instead of 45 mins. Any advice?

Goostacean · 06/07/2018 20:07

What time does he wake up? Am just looking at your timings again.

LapinR0se · 06/07/2018 20:39

How is he going to sleep for his nap?

thingymaboob · 07/07/2018 07:52

She can sometimes get herself off for a nap after 5 minutes of fussing. Most of the time she needs to be rocked / shushed / pushed in pram / fed. She's waking up at 5 quite a lot recently. It doesn't seem to matter how many times she wakes or feeds in the night. Shes normally asleep by 8pm (fed to sleep).

rubyroot · 07/07/2018 18:20

Thingymaboob
My baby doesn’t seem to be able to sleep past 9 hours a night. Up at about 8.30 and in bed by about 10pm with wake ups inbetween

I think it’s hard to give advice as I’ve come to the conclusion each baby is so so different.

For us our bedtime is so late as we struggle to fit two naps in- he just won’t go down earlier and has to be up about 3 or 4 hours before he will go to sleep.

I wonder though if your naps are short because your little one is not self settling during his naps. 45 mins is the time of a sleep cycle. Could you try to rock him back to sleep? Or try a bit of controlled crying for naptimes? I understand many people don’t like this.

My baby sometimes cries for a couple of minutes and then bobs off for two hours and he’s able to self settle when he stirs mid nap.

You could also try leaving some white noise or nature sounds on when he’s napping.

What about transitioning him to napping on his cot?

Oly5 · 07/07/2018 18:24

No nap schedule here. Far too young! He’s my third and I’m
Just determined to go with the flow seeing as they like to switch it up
Anyway! By 12 months I hope he takes a longish afternoon nap but not worried as yet
