scenario:

ds (just turned 2) wakes at 5:19 crying

i go in, do the whole shh-shh-it's-nighttime-go-to-sleep thing and he settles

at 5:25 he starts to cry again

do i wait another whole 10 mins before going in again, or do i go in 10 minutes after the last time (so 5:29)?

also - at the designated OK To Get Up time (6:00) do i go in straight away, or wait until the first time he cries after 6:00?

tia

Stick with being firm - not getting up at 5 something, not allowed to til 6, i think it will work eventually!

my DD1 has always been like this, we are going through a bad phase again... but what does work is this clock here combined with a ridiculous amount of praise and reward (CBeebies magazine!) if she stays in bed until the bunny gets up for a few days.

tried the "pop up" bunny clock before and it is so inaccurate so really doesn't work

DD2 often wakes at 4ish and i just give her her bottle in bed - she then often sleeps til 7 unless DD1 wakes her up.

One thing not to do is a) play with them b) videos etc. as they associate early mornings with "mummy (or daddy) all to myself = special time". That def happened with dh and DD1 when i was pg with DD2 and took a lot of undoing.

oh and i tried controlled crying with DD1 and found it useless for early morning wake up. she just got madder and madder. she is awake and ready to start her day.

was good at getting her to settle at night though so i am not anti it in specific circumstances within reason.
