Hi there,
Sorry if this is long but I feel a little lost in regards to my DSs sleep and would love some advice.
My DS is 19 months old and has never slept through the night. The clostest he has done is 7.30pm-4.30am and that was a one off a few weeks ago.
DS used to be rocked to sleep but became too heavy so we worked on just sitting by his cot and patting/shhing etc. This used to work fine but recently he has been taking around an hour to fall asleep. He also wants to hold hands or have his face rubbed which we’ve tried to stop so that he is falling asleep without our help.
He then wakes around 2am and refuses to go back to sleep. Whether we sit in the chair and pat him or lie on the floor next to his cot he just screams. If he does drop off he’s then awake again 20 minutes later.
I’ve probably done the wrong thing but at this time I used to then just take him into bed with me so we could all get back to sleep. DH works long hours and I work 3 days a week so we just all wanted to get back to sleep!
The last few weeks however he has been waking earlier and earlier so sometimes wakes up screaming at 10.30pm.
Last night he went to sleep around 8pm and was awake at 11pm. I tried to settle him but he just screamed and held his arms out. I managed to get him back to sleep by 11.30 but he was the awake again at 12.30, 1.30 and then around 3. At this point I gave up because I hadn’t had any sleep and took him into our bed
I know I’m giving him mixed messages but I’m 8 months pregnant, still at work and have SPD. It’s all taking it’s toll on me and I can’t face traipsing up and down all night or sitting in a chair. DH is more than happy to settle him but DS just screams if DH tries to sort him instead of me.
I’m worried about how to managed all of this when the new baby comes and whether to just allow DS to come into our bed whenever he wakes and just pray him and the baby don’t disturb each other
DSs usual day is roughly:
6-6.30 wake up
11 lunch
12-2ish nap
7-7.30 bed
So he has a good nap during the day.
I’m sorry if I’ve waffled but I could really do with some help
