8mo keeps rolling onto tummy in cot and then freaking out

My 8 month old DD has just discovered that she can roll onto her front in her cot but seems to just freak out too much to roll back, leading to being on her front and screaming until I go and turn her over again onto her back. Where she remains for about 30 seconds before repeating several times. This is happening during naps and several times in the night and we’re not getting much sleep! Any one had similar? Or any advice?

She has been able to roll both ways since 4 months but just never did so in her cot. The annoying thing is that she is perfectly capable of rolling back to her back but just seems to get in such a tizzy that she can’t. She’s old enough to now to sleep on her front as well but she just can’t seem to relax like it. She’s in a sleeping bag in a full sized cot if it’s relevant.

A friend recommended rolling towels to stop her rolling but I don’t feel comfortable with that...

Thanks :)

I feel your pain op , I had a thread similar to this a couple of months ago.

My son was beginning to roll onto his tummy to sleep , it wasn't upsetting him but it was freaking me out as he was faceplanting and unable to roll back by himself at that point.

I moved his cot about a metre from my side of the bed and initially lost sleep trying to keep him on his back but it wasn't sustainable long-term! I've relaxed a little now and he is at last learning to move his head to the side when he lays on his tummy.

Oh and I would definitely avoid putting anything in her cot to keep her propped up , you're right not to do that.

Is it the sleeping bag that's stopping her rolling back over? Have you tried her without it? DD hated her sleeping bag once she figured out that she could move about

Yeah my son has decided to dislike sleeping bags now he's crawling and standing.

It's been very warm lately so not a mega problem but winter could be interesting

I would try without the sleeping bag, mine were out of them by about 6 or 7 months

I will try without sleeping bags, don’t know what to dress her in or what blankets to use though tbh! Thanks, fingers crossed for better sleep :)

We had this problem for a bit when our daughter started rolling at about 4/5 months eventually I just left her to moan until she fell asleep on her front a few times. Now she usually sleeps on her back but will sometimes roll over and sleep on her front in the middle of the night.
Now she's crawling and starting to pull up I'm sure well have some sleepless nights again! Interesting about sleeping bags as well- I wanted to use these forever but can see how she'll be frustrated in them soon.
