Silly question about overnight stay - safe sleeping in pram?

Daft question from a FTM... staying overnight for the first time with our 4 week old. I wondered if it was safe for us to let her sleep in the carrycot part of the pram instead of packing up the chicco next to me? We would put the carrycot on the floor next to the bed.

Not sure if it makes any difference but the pram is a silver cross wave. I checked the manual and can't see anything about not using it overnight.

I think I would be happy with that, I don’t think it’s different to a Moses basket myself

No advice as I'm interested in the answer to this myself! Would only be for one night and there's no way we can take the Snuzpod with us!

you arent supposed to... bad for babies back... you are only supposed to keep them lying in it for a certain number of hours.. I cant remember how many... because of the quality of the mattress bit. But to be honest I think its fine once in a blue moon... I certainly did it now and then and my son has no back issues! and ive seen lots of other mums do it.

Afaik (we went away for a weekend and pfb slept in a pram when they were newborn) so long as it's one that lays flat, it's fine.

He's now 8 and I've not broken him yet

I have a silver cross wayfarer and it says it’s suitable for overnight sleeping, so if it doesn’t specifically say so, it’s probably not suitable for it.

It's says on their website it's suitable for overnight use as a cot

We have the Bugaboo chameleon and used it as overnight a few times

As long as it has a firm base and firm sides, it's totally fine

Could you get an extra mattress for your pram? Our moses basket mattress fitted perfectly in our babies pram. So we bought an extra one for long outings

Our pram is built for overnight stays so yes we did.

Check your pram. We have the iCandy Peach and that is safe for overnight sleep in the carrycot

We actually didn't get a moses basket. She just slept in the pram and then went in the cot.

I did it. About a week after DS was born and I was at my parents and did that thing when you just start to cry and can't stop! I stayed the night with what I had with me which meant DS slept in the pram. Put it on a chair and he's fine .... wouldn't do it for days at a time but the odd night and I'd say you'd be fine!

Eeek! I seem to be the only one, but I wouldnt do it! I've read about babies dying after sleeping in car seat/capsule etc because the weight of their head causes them to suffocate. Its a tricky one because how on earth are you meant to stop your baby sleeping in a car seat/pram? And of course everyone does it (i used to let my baby sleep in the capsule on the floor in the lounge after she fell asleep on a drive, but I was very paranoid and checked her obsessively). I wouldnt do it overnight when I'm asleep. I imagine that is a higher risk because of their heavy heads.

We did this many years ago. Some prams are designed for this.

Our pram was flat and like a carry cot. They are nothing like car seats/ infant seats. That’s very different.
So long as the straps can’t tangle baby up you are fine. We also used an insert mattress, pram sheets and then a baby swaddled inside it was fine :)

Bubblesoup - I believe the OP means the prams carrycot, the lay flat one. Not a car seat. That indeed would be unadvisable.

I have done this OP. I had a Moses basket at home, but we went to the Grandparents next visit when LO was about 6 weeks or so and I simply used the pram carrycot for overnight sleeping. Mine wasn’t in it much overnight either!!

But @Bubblesoup that sounds like you mean the car seat (which I absolutely would not let my baby sleep in overnight) not the carrycot? Have I missed something there? (Sorry if I have - I am not sure what you mean by “capsule” so might have misunderstood).

I don’t think anyone is suggesting letting baby sleep in a car seat. There is no way I would let my baby sleep overnight in a car seat, I won’t let him be in it for more than 45 minutes at a time at all. The car seat holds the baby at an angle - hence the floppy head and suffocation risk. But the carry cot - or at least the one I have - is large and totally flat like a Moses basket, can’t be used in the car and in my case actually has a wooden base and a Moses basket mattress in it. I am not clear how that is different to using a Moses basket? DS1 slept in the carrycot part of his pram until he didn't fit in it anymore! 😂

Oh! Sorry! Yes i completely misread that and thought OP meant the portable baby carrier/ car seat that can attach to a pram! I'm blaming sleep deprivation! Ha ha! If it's the lay flat carry cot then yes I'd do that for a 4 month old, as long as they're not rolling
