1 yr old suddenly hates travel cot

Hi

One-year-old DS used to nap well in his travel cot, but I tried putting him in it yesterday while at my parents' house and he got so upset, we had to abandon both naps. Same again today so I've resorted to holding him (which is actually kind of nice but only because it's a novelty).

The problem is my parents will be looking after him two days a week in the near future so we need him to be able to nap in a travel cot. It's also going to cause problems on holiday, although that's not until next year so probably not worth worrying about yet!

Did anyone else's LO suddenly go off the travel cot? And did you find a solution? It has a nice comfy extra mattress, and I followed his usual nap routine beforehand. Although we haven't actually put him in there in a few months, not since he started crawling and standing, so he's quite a different little boy to last time he slept in there.

Any advice gratefully received 😁

Does it have a proper mattress?

Hi @MollyDaydream, yes the actual travel cot mattress is really thin and flimsy so I added a thicker comfortable mattress. This was working fine until last week...

Is it too enclosed for him? He might not like the sides. Can he not sleep in a bed at your parents house? I definitely wouldn’t expect a 2 year old to be sleeping in a travel cot so you will need another holiday plan.

Yes I wondered about it being too enclosed as the sides are obviously very different to what he's used to at home (although the sides were fine up until recently!).

Luckily my parents are looking at buying a basic cot as they say it'll come on handy for the other grandchildren too. With DS only being a year old I wouldn't like to try putting him in a bed yet

Hmm I was hoping to be able to put him in a travel cot when we go on holiday (just before his 2nd birthday). If we haven't transitioned him to a bed at home then doing it for the first time on holiday doesn't seem like a good idea. We may have no choice though.
