bumpers should be taken off when the baby starts to sit up, duvets are a no no before 1 year old! Hence the point of a bumper and quilt set baffles me as you can't use the two things together!!!

Bumbers are not recommended on cots AFAIK.

Duvets and pillows not recommended until at least 12 months.

Found this on Childalert.co.uk
"Pillows and duvets can cause suffocation. Cot bumpers are not necessary and must be removed as soon as the baby can sit up. They can provide a foothold for climbing out. They can also make the baby too hot. Trim ties and straps to stop your baby chewing them or getting trapped in them."

ooh right ok didn't realise that, he's 15 months now so will have a look into a duvet for after the summer I think.

never used them, didn't see the point - you're not supposed to when they are little due to SIDS nor when they can sit up in case they lever themselves out , so when do you ?! We used a duvet for dd from about 18 months .

are they sold for cots to be as a show peice hten if baby can't actually sleep with them inside the cot?

really - damn DS's bumper helps me to creep in wihtout me seeing him when he's dozing off. Perhaps I could tie it aroud the outside?

I tried him with a pillow yesterday (17 months) very funny, he thinks its like a teddy and wrestled it half way around the cot before I caved and took it away.

without him seeing me! Obviously

According to FSIDS...

"In the past, there were concerns that bumpers might make babies too hot, increasing the risk of cot death. However, recent research has shown that they have neither good nor bad effects. Take it out when your baby can get up on hands and knees so they can?t climb out."

munz, am planning to get duvet for ds2 after the summer - he'll be about 20 months, like J, by then. Doesn't time fly !

Ds and DD1 were both 12mths when they got duvets..in fact not long after 1st birthdays as that is when they went into cot beds. Never had a bumper thing at all.
