Sleeping through - is it just me??

This is a light hearted moan really but....... Just wondering if many others have the same experiences as me?
Every parent I ask no matter how old their dc's are, they have remarkable sleepers. Sleeping 7-7 or similar. Is it just the company I keep? Do I need new mummy friends or do I need to stop talking about sleep.Hmm
Mummy exercise class - 13 week old and 10 week old sleeping through. The 13 week old has since day 1.
Playgroup - 3 month old and 4month old twins sleeping through.
Health visitor group - 5 babies all around 4months. All sleeping through - except my little cherub!!! Grin
Save my sanity and say its not just me.

2 very very long years as a lone parent until I got my first nights sleep.

I nearly packed up work.
I remember crying a lot.
I still do

DD still comes in my room now, in the middle of the night.
That's if she doesn't start off in my bed at 7pm and stays there Hmm

TheActualFuck · 30/04/2018 22:06

2 years 3 months in and still not reliably "sleeping through ". To be fair now she tends to only wake up once and we've got in the habit of whichever one of us hears her stumbles out of bed half asleep and brings her in with us. We roll over, she rolls over and we all get a decent sleep until 7 ish.

On the nights where she stays in the cot all night I know she'll be wide awake and ready to go at 5.30 Hmm

Just do what works for you, it'll be over one day.

BlueTrousers · 30/04/2018 22:18

beckie I honestly have no idea, DP sneezed on me??

beckieperk · 01/05/2018 02:53

Haha pinkball. You have 4 dc, 2 girls and 2 boys?? The boys are both shocking sleepers? If you have any more pray for a girl!!! I'm done at 2 rubbish sleeping boys. Going to sleep in spare room when dh has a cold!!!! Wink

I'm up for what feels like the 10th time tonight and this will probably be the wake up where he's up for 2 hours .... 😴

beckieperk · 01/05/2018 03:01

Oh dear bamanarama. That sounds very tough. Sending Flowers and Brew or Wine.

2 years old my dd goes down around 8pm up at 3am wanting several comfort feeds that's a good night! Her eczema is bad at the mo do sleeps even more disturbed.

ShackUp · 01/05/2018 03:36

DS1 is 5 and a half YEARS old and DS2 23 months and neither have ever slept through Grin

eatthepineapple · 01/05/2018 04:07

It's 4.03am and I can tell you my 4 month old girl is awake! Technically according to some definitions of "sleeping through" though she has already, as she had 6 hours solid before she woke for her feed, and that qualifies, apparently Hmm

She generally wakes once or twice a night which I'm trying to enjoy before the famous sleep regression hits...!

Bexter801 · 01/05/2018 04:13

Wow,7-7,I can only imagine(like actually only imagine)......never seen this or experienced it in my life with my kids.

BalloonFlowers · 01/05/2018 04:17

And the seasoned mums reply is "yes, last night was brilliant"
Because I only got out if bed to deal with baby 136 times instead of the normal 496.
And the rest are at home fantasizing about 4 straight hours in some sort if sleep deprived haze.

shirleyschmidt1 · 01/05/2018 04:22

You're not alone! It's 4.20am and I've been awake with 10 week old DS since 3.10. I'd only put him back down at 2am. 🤯 DD didn't start sleeping through until 9/10 months (prior to that woke every 1-2 hours throughout the night, every night without fail!!). Whyyy 😫

JoandMax · 01/05/2018 04:41

DS1 slept through just after he turned 2 years, he’s nearly 10 and despite the tough start is a brilliant sleeper now! Never faffs about going to bed, sleeps anywhere and amuses himself quietly when he wakes up.

DS2 just turned 8 years and I don’t think has slept through yet!!! He either comes into our bed in the night or starts off there but I think it’s only been a handful of times he’s ever slept all night in his own bed........

Owlettele · 01/05/2018 05:38

Nope. We do not.sleep through. Last night was a good night. Did 3 hours jn his cot. Thats a good nights sleep atm. Some babies will sleep through early on but often hit the 4 months sleep regression and never get back. Also........i wld bet not all of those babies genuinely sleep through!! 😴😴😴

Thanks everyone. However some of these posts are making me shudder! rocksincornerswitchinglightonandoff.

I definitely think people’s definitions come into it.
I’d say my dd has been sleeping through since between 13-14 months old. She goes to bed between 6-7 and wakes between 5.30-6.30 (though isn’t allowed up until 6!). But that wouldn’t meet some people’s definitions as she’s an early riser. Before that she slept the odd night through.
Some friends were classing sleeping through from midnight til 5/6 - as they didn’t go to bed until then.
I was always happy if she would settle quickly with a night feed and I could get back to bed as soon as possible!

Shmithecat · 01/05/2018 08:06

It's not just you. Ds is 2.6 and has only just started sleeping 7-8 hours straight. And that's still not every night. Gin

Gloopy · 01/05/2018 08:26

My DS in 4 and still doesn't sleep through properly. He is staying to stay in his own bed more though..maybe 1-2 a week now he will be up through the night. Or he will sneak into our bed. But my oldest didn't sleep though until he was 2.5 either. Some mummies tend to exaggerate. Drives me mad.

allthegoodnamesalreadytaken · 01/05/2018 08:27

you're not alone! 22 month old here only slept through about 5 times in her entire life I'm literally at breaking point

BeyondThePage · 01/05/2018 08:34

Much better to have kids who are light sleepers when it gets to the potty training stage though... small mercies.

happymumof4crazykids · 01/05/2018 11:05

I have 3 children who were excellent sleepers and slept through the night from 2 weeks old. My fourth is a nightmare! She only regularly slept through from 2 1/2 years old. It was an absolute nightmare and drove me almost over the edge. The lack of sleep was horrific. She still disturbs occasionally and doesn't sleep for longer than 10 hours. I have to drag the other 3 out of bed! Everyone is different but they all sleep through at some point!

Muse84 · 01/05/2018 14:50

I'm at my wits end and I'm sure my lovely mum thinks it's me and I've created a rod for my own back by EBF my 6 month old on demand and occasionally co sleeping. I should stop moaning to her though as she is from the generation who put babies in room from very early on and they just slept through! If I hear the advice "just try to give him a bottle of formula at night" one more time as if that's the magic answer. Aaaaaargh! He's not waking cause he's starving! (And he won't take a bottle anyway). If only it was that simple

I do, on moments of reflection, wonder if I AM in the wrong and I have created a non sleeper Sad

beckieperk · 01/05/2018 20:16

Don't think so Muse84. Reading this thread many families have multiple dc, some are good sleepers, others aren't. Surely their routine etc can't be that different if in same family? But who knows.
I don't think you can make a rod for your own back as the saying goes. I think everyone just does their best night after night, breastfeed, bottle feed, Co-sleep, sleep train!! We're all just winging it as best we can.
(Except those doing Gina Ford!!!! They are magicians. Wowsers. Like baby boot camp.....but each to their own. 😂)
Hopefully a magic dust will be sprinkled on us all at some point and 7-7 will happen. Wink

DS used to sleep 7-2 then wake up every couple of hours and it wound me up that friends with babies who slept 11-6 (exactly the same amount of sleep!) would say they were sleeping through. Or you'd probe a bit and it turned out they were sleeping through aside from a dream feed at 10 and another feed at 2, then up at 5! Saying that, DS's sleep went to pot at 4 months and by 6 months was waking every 45 mins to an hour throughout the night, and I was on my knees so we sleep trained him and after that he slept most nights from 7-5, then he'd be up for the day. He only stopped waking at 5 once he was 2.5 yrs, and he still does wake before 6 a couple of times a fortnight!

Lightsong · 01/05/2018 20:25

I have the same worry as you Muse84 My DS is now 13months and I swear his sleeping is only getting worse. I would give my right arm for 3-4 hours. Last night was particularly bad, I saw every single hour on my phone clock, staring from 11:45pm until I had to get ready for work at 6am 😭. I feel like I am slowly turning into something from The Walking Dead.
