6 month old rolling over in his sleep

My 6 month old has randomly started sleeping on his side. What’s worrying me is he’s rolling over onto his front during the night and I’ve found him face down asleep around 5 times already tonight. I can’t sleep because I’m constantly checking on him. I’ve read some other threads that it’s ok he’s rolling over but how can him sleeping face down be ok? I’ve hit work in the morning and so far had about an hours sleep, please help!

My DD does this! If the mattress is firm and there are no loose sheets, comforters or anything else in the cot then he will be fine. Don’t be tempted to use any kind of sleep positioner as these really aren’t safe. Ultimately if this is how he wants to sleep then there’s very little you can do about it, not if either of you want to actually sleep that is!

Once they can roll over themselves it’s fine. No need to stress or roll him back to his back.

He’s fine. If he’s got the strength to roll himself over then he’s got the strength to move his head to the side so he can breathe.

As long as he’s safe in terms of blankets and bumpers and toys and things then there is no problem with it

Thanks all. He wears a sleeping bag and doesn’t have blankets etc. I feel a bit better now. I’ll just have to trust that he’s ok. It’s so hard though. Was bloody knackered at work today 😭

Yes it's true. The SIDS worry is putting newborns on their fronts when they can't turn their heads to breathe.

If your baby has the strength to roll over, he will be strong enough to turn his head to breath Smile
