We have been part time co sleeping with DS (8 months) almost sinse he was born, me and dh enjoy this and have not been in any hurry to move him, even though he is wriggly and takes up most of the bed. However he is now trying to open our eyelids when we are asleep or holds our noses closed to wake us up!! Very clever but not so nice at 3am!!
He goes in his cot in his own room from 7pm till 11pm, then comes in with us, feeds at 12ish then again at 4am, then wakes at 6.30ish.
I have tried feeding him at 11 when he wakes and putting him back in his cot, but he doesnt last very long and really wants to come into our bed.
Has anyone successfully done it, without resorting to controlled crying?

I've done the pickup/putdown (baby whisperer) but i can't remember how old dd was at the time (sorry), I think it just takes a lot of will power ie do you really want him to stay in his own cot, if so try putting him back once he wakes up and if he cries then pick up reassure him and then put him back and continue to do this. For me I didn't go down the route of controlled crying just didn't seem right especially when they are that young. My dd was 21mths when she got in her own room and slept on her own but its given me and dh a new lease of life having our own bed back
