Sleeping through the night? When?

Sick of family members sounding shocked that my 8 month old still doesn’t sleep through the night when asked over the festive period. Makes me feel like there is something wrong with him. I know most of the babies in my family were formula fed and slept through quite early on.

My 8 month old is breastfed and doesn’t take in that much solids, and still wakes 1-2 times a night. But I see no improvement anymore.

What % of babies slept through by 8 months or a year old, does anyone know? I am one of the unlucky few as it feels that way.

Two and a half years.

DS is 27mo. Still doesn't sleep through. 😣

In the last year, so while 4 years (not months!) old, DD has started sleeping through at least some of the time. But it's a rare week that she doesn't need us at some point in the night, and often wakes at 6 wanting reassurance (and then goes back to sleep; we aren't early risers). We haven't sleep trained, and this has worked for us. We've co-slept a lot. Ignore comments, and do what works for you!

Sounds completely normal to me, it can give you all sorts of worries when people look so astonished though! Dis slept through from 14 months although I made the decision to deliberately might wean at that point, which was very easy so I think he must have been ready anyway. We then had a blissful few months of brilliant sleep, but the last few months (from about 2.7) there has been much more waking again, I think it is just different things for different children. You are not doing anything wrong. My mil once told me that she used to put all of her 3 children to bed at 7 and simply shut the bedroom door, she claims to have never had any trouble with bedtimes / sleeping etc and tbh I don’t actually believe her! I think people sort of misremember quite a bit - I can already barely remember a thing from the first few months, and I know i agonised about all sorts of things at the time!!

Ds has just turned 2 and still doesn't sleep through Sad

To be honest I don’t even know what ‘sleeping through’ means anymore, much less if DD does it.

DD was FF, and had a dummy, she started sleeping from 7-7 with one wake up at around six weeks. We thought we were onto a winner.

She is now 15 months old. Some nights she sleeps through. Though usually not through-through she’ll pretty much always need some sort of something at some point, but usually before we go to bed at 11ish - so it’s negligible.

Some nights she wakes up 2, 3, 4 or even 7 or 8 times. Luckily she top-loads her waking so most of it is between her bedtime and ours.

I make a point of not remembering how she slept the previous night, I don’t need to remember how tired I should be.

Even so, I consider her a reasonable sleeper, most of the time she gets some good sleep, usually we only have to actually get out of bed once or twice in the night - and mainly all she needs is repositioning in her cot because she’s wedged her head in the top corner and got a leg stuck somewhere.

Nearly 5 and still waiting. Hmm

Although at least now he can take himself to the loo / have a drink / get another blanket.

I was DF and apparently didn’t sleep through till I was 4. My DSis was BF and they say she slept through from 6 weeks. Mine were 5 and 2.5 years. I think the research is that half are waking at least once at 12 months.

LittleGreyBear · 31/12/2017 19:31

Mine were 11 months and 15 months. Felt like a very long time!!

LuluJakey1 · 31/12/2017 19:38

DS slept through from about 4m, DD is 8m now and in the last week has slept through once.

icantdothis2017 · 31/12/2017 19:40

Dd has slept through 9/10 times since 6 months old.
She is nearly two now

babigailwabble · 09/01/2018 21:32
