DS now sleeps on his tummy, wants to be on tummy all time

DS 5 1/2 months loves being on his tummy. When ever I put him down on the floor he rolls over and goes on his tummy and will stay like that for ages.

What scares me though is that he has now taken to sleeping on his tummy at night time. Is this ok at 5 months does anyone know?

My DS was exactly the same - once he learnt to roll from back to front at 4 months, he would do it the minute you laid him on his back and never rolled back.

He used to (and still does) play on his front constantly and subsequently he learnt to commando crawl at 7 months - which I put down to the fact he was on his tummy all the time - he is still doing this at 9 months.

Even now, if I put him on the floor sitting up, he will lean forward until he is on his tummy.

Anyway, once he could do it on the floor, he started to do it in his cot at night - like you I was worried but got reassurance from HV and others on MN that it is ok for them to sleep on their tums if they get themselves into that position.

its fine, if he is doing it himself you don't need to worry - and what COULD you do anyway? You can't sit and watch him all night and turn him back over every time he rolls.

To be honest, there is nothing safe you can do about this anyway.
