Bedtime order / baby hates nappy change

I have a 7 week old. He’s really chilled placid cutie but hates nappy change!

Currently he eats (bottle) at 5ish and then at 8 He wakes himself up stirring and crying for food. At this point I quickly change his nappy put him in pjs and then give him his bottle. He falls asleep at bottle and is fine but I hate how upset he is at nappy change time.

If I do bottle and then get him ready for bed thinking this will make him upset and then there’s no milk to sooth himans send him to bed.

Wot do other people do? I only bath alternate day and again have same issue!

I always feed upon first waking. Then afterwards do nappy and floor time play.

Dummy for comfort sucking to sleep. Or the last bit that's left in the bottle.

Can you split the milk feed? Half a bottle before changing and half after?

crazycatlady5 · 27/11/2017 21:44

I wouldn’t worry too much about this, I think it’s a phase. My little one didn’t like baths and I found it incredibly traumatic, but the week after she absolutely loved it!

Have you tried putting a warm towel on top of the changing mat to make it nicer to lie on? But I wouldn't worry about the crying, most babies have something they hate - nappy change/bath/car seat/sleep...

I totally ageee with CrazyCat. My LO hated baths and nappy changes and I used to find it so traumatic. She got used to it and I'm sure yours will too given time.

Going to try splitting the feed tonight!

During the day we do feed first nappy next but night/morning feeding when I want her to fall straight back off we do nappy first (a dummy definitely needed) then feeds as she falls asleep with that

We always changed his nappy first, while his bottle warmed up, so be could have his bottle then go straight back up to bed. At that age he usually still fell asleep drinking his bottle, but when he didn't he'd quickly settle back down again on his own (never ever had a dummy as I don't like them at all). At that age he was bathed earlier in the day.

Warm water and cotton wool for bum cleaning rather than cold wipes? Definitely aim to 'finish on a positive note' ie milk.
