9 month old chronic early waking - any ideas?

Hello,

Just hoping that someone will have some advice. My DS has been waking earlier and earlier to the point where it is becoming a regular thing to wake at 4:00 -4:30am.

I'm now back at work and my husband is ill so we are really struggling at the moment.

Our routine is as follows:

4:30am wake up
5:00am 7oz milk
7:00am breakfast
9:00am 7oz milk and nap for 1 hour
11:30am lunch
1:30pm 7oz milk and nap for 1.5 hours
4:30pm tea
6:00pm bath, story, cuddle and 7oz milk
6:30 - 6:45 bed

I know that some may think our bed time is early but by then he is shattered and needs to sleep.

Can anyone see anything that I'm.doing wrong that may help with the early waking?

Are those the times baby naturally wakes, or do you wake her?

FATEdestiny · 26/10/2017 11:06

After the naps I mean. I know you don't wake her at 4.30am!

Hi *FATE the first nap he woke up of his own accord but the second nap I had to wake him as it was getting quite late in the afternoon.

Could you make the second nap earlier? Say 12pm. Ideally you want to allow for 2.5-3h lunchtime nap.

It's certainly worth a try? Should I cut the morning one at all to allow him.to build enough tiredness for the earlier second nap?

Definitely cut out the early nap and move the second nap up a bit to midday.

It's very common to have an early riser at this stage for a few months. I never thought I'd be so delighted to have a lie in until 6:30am after months of 4:30am risings.

Confused Babies! Oh the lack of sleep is so tough. Best of luck!

Ah thank you. I'm hoping it's a phase. I will definitely take your advice and try that tomorrow.
He's always been a rubbish sleeper but we had really got somewhere with it before the early waking started!

My 9 month old still only manages in 2 hours awake time!

No, I wouldn't drop the morning nap.

If anything is also make the morning nap earlier too.
