What time do you put your baby to bed?

Reading through some of these threads I wonder if we're putting our 4mth old down too early.
We aim for 6.30 asleep which can end up being 7pm. He starts to get cranky from about 5pm.

But I see most of you are going later which makes me wonder if we're putting him down too early.

Mine went to sleep late and woke up late at that age, but only because it was the time she wanted to sleep naturally. Personally, I don't think there's a perfect time that works for all, go with whatever works for your baby and your household. If he's cranky from 5pm and wants to settle down by 6 and it works for all of you, I don't think that's a problem. If you are wanting it to be later so he wakes up later, you can just adjust it slowly and adjust day time naps accordingly to make it work better for you.

I put my 7 month old to bed at 7pm. She hardly naps in the day so is ready for bath, bottle and bed by then.

Littlejayx · 24/10/2017 18:10

We put her to bed when we go to sleep at the moment she's 3 months old. We go to bed at about 9 then she sleeps (with a few feeds) until 9/9-30

At 4 months old my DD was asleep by 6pm. She was inconsolable if I tried to keep her awake any later. 6-6.30pm bedtime seems to be the norm for babies that age.

She's 6 months now and goes no later than 6.45pm. It is nice having your evenings back! Shame she wakes up in the hour of 5 most days... Wishing she would at least sleep til 6.30am!

Mine is also a nap dodger which is probably why he's tired so early.
He doesn't sleep for any decent stretches at night and I guess I wondered whether putting back his bedtime would help at all

He doesn't sleep for any decent stretches at night

Then bedtime doesn't really matter very much. More sleep is better, so earlier bed is better than not.

Between 6-6.30. She's 7 months. 7pm is late enough.

Greylilypad · 24/10/2017 21:15

Between 7.30 and 8. He usually wakes around 7.15 and 7.30am.
Also couple of feeds during the night. He is 4 months

I am exactly the same as you. My 4 month old does it sleep anymore than 3x30 mins naps in the day and come 5-5:30 is tired and ready. I end up putting him down between 6-6:30 most nights and he can take up to 20 minutes to settle and still wakes 2-3 times at night. I have also been thinking about about a later nap about 4:30-5 to give him a later bedtime which might help with the night wakes but I can't get him to go later. I think we may need to just read our babies and if they are ready at 6:30 then that's how it has to be and I will sort out night wakings when he's a tad older x

I think they’re all very different. At 4 months 6pm was nap time and she’d go to sleep closer to 8.30/9

ThePhoenixBird · 24/10/2017 22:06

Whenever she wants really. Generally, she will fall asleep for the night anywhere between 6.30pm and 9pm, but it’s usually around 7.30pm.

She is five months.

tomatoandcheese2009 · 25/10/2017 07:19

DD is 5 months and goes down at 7. Sometimes 6.45 if she's not napped well in the day. It used to be more like 7.30/8 but is creeping earlier. She'll be pretty cranky from about 6 ish and would likely prefer an earlier bedtime, but I have DS to work around. We keep her going with cluster feeds, nappy off play and a longish bath. On a good day she'll wake at 6.30am, on a bad day she tries to get up at 5am

ASqueakingInTheShrubbery · 25/10/2017 07:21

I can't remember the exact timings now, but it was whenever she was ready to sleep for a long stretch. At 3 months this was about midnight, by 6 months it was about 7, and she brought it forward bit by bit by herself.

Sunnyx · 25/10/2017 11:56

My 5 month old is in bed by 7pm. It used to be earlier (about 6:30) but he was waking 5/5:30 am so we tried to move it back.

Smoochyschmoo · 25/10/2017 12:01

3mo ds is a bad napper so is generally in bed asleep 5.30-6. He's still up 2-4 times a night though. Hoping he'll go a bit later once he has decent naps and is sleeping better at night. My 2 older dc were always very early in bed too though until they started school as they were just too tired.
