My 16 month old wakes through the night!!!

Hi we desperately need some advise, my 16 month old has never slept through the night. We have tried controlled crying but this did not work as after months of trying this she still wakes. She baths at 7pm goes straight up to bed, we get her changed, we read her a book and then put her in her cot. Once she is in her cot we give her a sip of water, kiss her good night and leave the room. She does not cry and she goes to sleep straight away. Going to sleep is no problem, it's when she constantly wakes through the night, it's driving me and my partner both mad. We do not feed her back to sleep, we either let her cry it out or keep going into her room to check she is ok and then leave again. We don't understand the reasons why she wakes so much, and to top off a night of disturbed sleep she also gets up at 5am!!! She then needs a nap at 8 which lasts for 1.5 hours and she naps again at 2 for an hour and 15 minutes. She has never been a good sleeper through the night so this is not a phrase, me and my partner are both exhausted, and are tired of hearing other parents say what angels there children are at sleeping when ours is a nightmare!! any advice would be much appreciated!!!

Have you tried staying with her as she goes to sleep? Then leave once she is asleep or if the wakes are frequent, a spare bed or mattress in her room might get you more sleep.

She might be feeling anxious on her own.
