22 months and still in a cot

hi my ds is 22 months and hasnt tried to get out of his cot yet, so i have decided to leave him in it, but i have to friends with simular age children who are boasting that they have put there kids in a bed, one doesnt even have a bed rail, do u think i should try my son in a bed or do i leave him in a cot?

As long as he is comfy and has enough room in a cot don't worry! I think nearer three is much more common than you think. My niece was 3.5

I see no problem with it. My 2yo nephew is still in one. Both mine were just over two when they came out of them but there were reasons that I can no longer remember.

dd2 is the same age & still in her cot & I'm not worried at all.She loves it & although I have asked her if she wants to go in a 'big girl bed',she said 'no'.

DD1 was totally different,she went into a big bed at the same age & never had a bed rail.I'd leave your son if he is happy.As for your friends-frankly I don't think what sort of bed a child sleeps in is worth boasting about!

My DS is 27 months and in his cot (a cot bed but it's staying a cot until it has to be otherwise).

Cots are safe as long as toddlers can't climb out of them. Beds can be gotten out of and fallen out of and as such, mine will be in a cot as long as I can get away with it!

I left ds1 in a cot until he was just under 2 and a half and I only took him out as I needed the cot as ds2 was about to be born!

DS2 on the other hand went into a bed last night - he will be 2 on tues. He was so unhappy in his cot - so much so that he had been sleeping on his cot mattress on the floor for around a month!

I would wait personally. Once they are out of the cot, many children create other problems - falling out of bed, night wandering, readjustment to bedtime routines, etc. As long as he is comfy, leave him and count your blessings

If he's happy in his cot, leave him in it!
Both my boys were nearly 3 before I took the bars off their cots, as I knew they would stay put in a cot, & feared they would be constantly getting out of a bed!

If your friends only have that to talk about, perhaps you should start a rumour one of them's got crabs

Oh deasr, my post disappeared!

Anyway, ds was 3 a couple of weeks ago and is still in a cot.

Unless a child is climbing out or insisting on a bed I don't see a problem. I prefer ds safely imprisoned in there atm

i kept my daughter in her cotbed as long as i cud till she started to climb out of it all the time so by the time she was 26m old i took the side of the cotbed off. I wud say keep her in the cot as long as u can

hunkermunker very funny. one of my friends dd is a week older than my ds and she is desparate 4 her dd to do things b4 my ds. its so sad.

I just look vague and go "mmmm" if people try the competitive thing with me.

My dd2 is 3 in july and still in a cot. Will be out of it soon because the side broke off and i had to turn it round against the wall because i know she will fall out and bed guard doesn't fit on the cot.

Leave him if he is happy. I moved ds at 12mths due to him trying to vault over the sides. DD1 has just moved into a toddler bed as she had DS old cot and it had a weak base so as she was getting bigger I was worried about it breaking on her. I am lucky in that she loves her sleep so hasnt got out of the bed. If I could have bought another cot I would have left her but we already just got another for DD2.

i just ignore her!. my dd was in a bed from about my son's age but she was a lot more advanced than my ds is

Neither of mine got out of bed at all so we had minimal trouble with the transfer in both cases. Although at one point we had the rail a bit low for DS and he fell head first into a large crate of cars. And DD was in a grobag with a bed rail and a folded duvet on the bottom half of the bed and managed to slide out in the grobag between the rail and duvet feet first and not even wake up. They say there is no point until they climb out but I think if I had followed that rule my 6yo would still be in the cot!

My DS (2.11) is still in his cot. He loves it. We have a big boy's bed for him to go into when his feet start poking out of the end of his cot.

My ds was over three when he moved from cot.

ds1 is 20 months and still in his cot. until he is too long he can stay there! he is happy and i know where he is! lol

DD was 2.10 when she moved to a bed. All her peers had long before moved to beds, but I didn't see any point while she wasn't climbing out and, more to the point, she was contained first thing in the morning .
