How to stop cuddling baby to sleep for naps

My 11 month old has two naps of day and currently, we have a short pre-nap routine and then I hold her until she is asleep (sometimes a bit of slow rocking when she is overtired, but not often), then put her down for her nap. She stirs slightly and turns over when put down, but goes back to sleep.
I have tried to move onto putting her down awake, as holding her for 15-20 mins each time is really starting to hurt my back, but she just wakes and starts standing up and messing about.
Any tips on achieving this?

Does anyone have any ideas? Or should I stop worrying and carry on?

I still cuddle/rock my 2.5 yr old to sleep for naps. It doesn't cause me any inconvenience and it works for us. Will probably keep doing it until he drops the nap.
I do it sitting down in a chair in his room though and then transfer to the cot once he's asleep. Could you do that to save your back?
