Sleeping through night by feeding lots in the evening?

I have an eight week old and am starting to think it would be nice to get into more of a routine! At the moment I'm feeding her at around midnight, four and eight.
I think I read somewhere that you could give multiple feeds in the evening to load them up and help get them through the night. But now I can't find this in any of my books.
Does anyone know how this works? Do you just wake them up to feed them in the evening, and if so how often, and how do you keep them awake?

You may find yourself with a really grumpy baby in doing this! My ds had a similar feeding pattern and I thought we were rather lucky to get 2 lots of 4 hours kip between feeds. The 11pm/midnight feed gradually came forward by an hour or so at a time so by the time he was about 16 weeks he was in bed by 8ish and would go til about 4am. We didn't do anything to make this happen, we just went with what he wanted, when he wanted.

Thanks, am actually quite pleased with her night pattern as it is so maybe I should let sleeping babies lie!
