time to change 11 month old dd's bedtime routine

We've always bathed dd then given her her bottle in her room with the lights v. dim and straight into the cot. She doesn't have milk before day time naps but she does associate milk with going to bed at night.
How can we alter her routine? I would like to start doing a bedtime story and perhaps try to put her down whilst still awake.
Thanks for readingx

hi puffling,

Does she fall asleep drinking the milk and then go into her cot asleep? If you didn't want to change it too much to begin with you could read her a story after her bath but before her milk, then a few days later later, story at the same time as milk - I assume she could hold it herself while sitting on your knee while you read.

Thanks Clairemow. She sometimes falls asleep with the bottle but it's more the case that she just gets sleepy. I'll try your ideas

how did it go last night? I've always found that I worried more about changing DS1's routines than he did!

Hi Clairemow, chickened out last night as she was screaming thru' teething and tonight she fell asleep on the bottle as I'd given her Medised before her bath. There always seems to be something stopping me making changes! Although I did buy her a bath book, which she loved.
